i've searched the forum on this topic, and found only one post, which did not apply to my situation.
i created a 10-minute project file, and tried to save it as a video file with two-pass encoding and DVD-VR compliant selected. each time (i tried 5 times), the same thing happened: it rendered once through, then, at the 49% progress mark, just as it was supposed to go back to the beginning for the second pass, it would crash. i got an error message saying a problem had been encountered and the program would close.
the original video is clips taken from a pressed DVD. the clips are MPEG-2, 24 bits, 29.97, 720x480, 9,334 frame rate, upper field first, Dolby 5.1.
for some reason, unless i go in and manually select upper frame first, VS wants to render it lower frame first. question: is it not able to detect the setting of the original video (assuming all clips are the same, as in this case), and set the rendering settings accordingly?
anyway, i think i discovered the problem, and wanted to share it with others on this board. all 5 times, i had both "two-pass encoding" and "DVD-VR compliant" selected. on the 6th try, i unchecked "DVD-VR compliant," and it worked fine.
i don't know why this would cause VS to crash - but i wanted to report the problem.
