yami-f,

Can you play the video file in another player, such as Windows Media Player? If not, then the file is possibly corrupted. If you can play it, then you're having a codec problem.

Have you got the DivX or the open source XVid codec installed? Such a file will only play (or allow itself to be opened) if it has the relevant codec installed on the computer...

You must have either the Xvid or DivX codec installed on your machine.

You can get the Xvid codec here: http://www.xvid.org/

The DivX codec can be obtained here: http://www.divx.com

yami-f,

There's a freeware program called G-Spot at http://www.headbands.com/gspot/v26x/quick_start.html that shows you all of the codecs installed on your system. Perhaps if you run that and give us a screen shot we can give you better advice. It still sounds to me that you're having a conflict between codecs. This can sometimes happen if you have too many competing codecs installed, i.e. a bunch of codecs to code/decode AVIs. I wouldn't however just start deleting/uninstalling codecs blindly hoping to fix the problem.
