Can I create nested menus

Post by EarlWaud »

I want to create a DVD that has this:
An initial auto played video that when complete goes to a menu. On that menu are 4 choices which all go to different sub menus. On each of those sub menus, I want 3 or 4 short videos that when played each return to their respective sub menu. Of course each sub menu needs to be able to return to the main menu. I also want to be able to replay that initial auto played video from either the main menu or one of the sub menus.

I can't see to find a way to create a sub menu unless I add one or more chapters to a video. I'm not looking to add chapters for 1 video, I want each sub menu to have 3 or 4 different videos as its menu choices.

Can I do this with the full version of DVD Movie Factory plus?
Thanks,
-Earl
ps sorry if this is answered somewhere, I've spent several hours trying to find the answer here.

Partially Yes.

Step 1 - create 5 Videos - in DVD authoring they are termed Titles.
We will call them in this example
VideoA
VideoB
VideoC
VideoD
Firstplay

Step2
Import these into MovieFactory

Step3
Import your Firstplay video again - it now appears twice on your time line.

Step 4
Make sure one of the two Firstplay videos is on the left of the timeline and then tick the button "Use first clip as introductory video"

Step 5
Create chapters for each of the 4 Titles prefixed "Video"

Step 6
Create your DVD Menus as normal. You will now have
A title menu with 5 thumbnails and a play all button. One of the 5 thumbnails will be the second copy of your first play video.
The remaining 4 thumbnails are for the 4 Videos VideoA to VideoD
Selecting one of those 4 thumbnails will take you to the chapter menu for that video.

multiple videos on sub menu?

Post by EarlWaud »

Thank you!

So I get the first part, where I can have my auto play video show up as a menu choice by adding it a second time. That solves that.

Now if I understand, it seems that sub menus can only have chapters for one video . To get what I need, I would have to take the 3 or 4 videos I need on the each sub menu and join them into 1 video for each sub menu and then create the chapters for each of those (sub) videos?

Is that right?

Thanks again!

So the problem for me then is that with my 3 joined videos, if I go to the chapter menu and play the first one, it will play all three back to back to back, before returning to the sub menu. Right?
