fitting 2 hours 17 on 180min template

Post by norman54 »

Hi,
Any ideas on how I can get a 2 hr. 17 min project to fit onto a 4.7gb DVD?
I've set template in Workshop to 180min. and ticked boxes for video & audio to convert to disc template
Thanks
Norman

When doing this kind of thing, make sure the audio is Dolby Digital (AC-3) at 192 kbit/s or even less. I suggest you then make a trial run (use a ¡ÓRW disc) at 4000 kbit/s CBR (this may be a bit tight, depending on your menus etc,). Once you've found the G-spot, you can then try a VBR at, say, 5000 kbit/s max, with the average at your determined value. Aim for a 4.0 to 4.1 Gb overall disc.

Thanks for reply - I'll give it a go. Was thinking of trying to use DVD shrink - is that a good route to go?

DVD Shrink is a last resort option. You get better resuls by working out the bit rates in the first place.

Picture quality is poor after processing video through matching the 180 min. template.
At the moment I am encoding in Premiere so that Workshop is able to take in mpeg video - can I get the avi. file from the Premiere project into Workshop to avoid encoding twice.
Other than that I am thinking of splitting the project into two to mainatin picture quality.
Thanks

you're not going to get great picture quality with 2 1/4 hours on one single sided dvd, you either need to split it in two or write to a dual layer dvd.

When you import your premiere mpeg, you have your project settings the same as for the mpeg you've made and tick the box to "don't encode compliant files"

Thanks for all advice.
I've split the project, which was a dance show, into two halves neatly coinciding with the two halves of the show.
Best regards
Norman
