PI V3 and Vista x64

Post by LCarter »

PhotoImpact V3 trial doesn't work on Vista x64. I guess it isn't Vista compatible?

I wanted to give it a try to see how I would like the RAW converter using X3F RAWs. I know there is no support at this time for the Sigma DP1 but I do own the SD10 and SD14. I would assume it would at least support those. Anyway, I was curious. At the present I'm using Adobe Camera RAW with CS3 and Adobe LightRoom.

I hope PhotoImpact irons out it's problems since I'm a RAW converter junkie and wanted to see if Corel had better methods of color processing with the X3F RAWs than the present tools I own.

I guess I'll keep checking to see if the trial has been fixed.

Thanks

Welcome to the forums,

Yes PI-X3 is Vista compatible. You don't say what or how it's not working for you.

Sorry about not explaining.

When trying to open an image or RAW it just terminates. No error messages, acts like it received a close the application function. But that isn't the only incident. Just navigating the menus will also induce this behavior. I'm very interested in the software but so far haven't seen enough to warrant a purchase.

Try re-installing the trial version, it should not affect the remaining time left on your 30 days.

Thank you.

I redownloaded and restalled.

After a install a Vista compatible software will launch without asking for permission but this application does. The results are the same and nothing works and exits out when asking to open a file. There is definitely some really bad problems with the coding of PI X3. There were no error messages nor did Vista x64 report any violations. I've never had a lockup or crashes with Vista x64, all my applications are 100% stable. There is a big problem with PI X3 trial. Uninstalling the application after posting.

System used:
Processor, Intel Q6600 Quad Core.
Mainboard, MSI 975x Platinum Power Up Edition
Graphics, ATI Radeon x1950xtx
Physical RAM, Dual Channel 4GB
Operating system, Vista x64 Home Premium SP1

Have you checked the Windows event log for any error messages?

The only error that I could see from this evening was a system HttpEvent error which states: Unable to initialize the security package Kerberos for server side authentication. I think the only way to resolve this is for Corel to run this on Vista x64 with 4GB or more. I believe it's a memory handling error they over looked.

I have read a few posts here and elsewhere that there is a problem with Vista and 4GB RAM. I don't know if it is connected with your problem or not but might be worth checking these Google Results to see if there is anything there which may help.

I think your getting your facts mixed up. There is no problem with Vista and 4GB unless your running a 32 bit version and there is no problems there either except it can't use all the 4GB which is limited by the 32 bit OS. I think I'm discussing this problem with the wrong people? How do you get real support?

So there was no need for Microsoft to release their Vista 64 Bit 4GB Memory Patch then?

Evidently you guys are trying to ignore the fact that PI doesn't work. I have no idea why. Evidently I'm in the wrong place to let them know there is a bug. I don't know if this is even a place to unload bug reports. At least point me into the direction of someone who actually works for Corel.

Not very nice to try belittling the people who volunteer their time helping others, and usually not the best way to obtain further help... Just as a reminder, this message board is titled "Corel User to User Web Board". I personally find the people handling this board very helpful and caring.

If you need "real" technical support, the obvious path is to go to the Corel web site, and then to Support, which will bring you here:

http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite/ ... 2796555474

This page provides information on how to email Corel Customer Support directly, as well as other support options. Hope you find what you need there.

I thought that was all that I asked for in the first place.

Thanks very kindly, appreciate that.

I'm running PI x3 on Vista 64bit with no problems like the ones you are experiencing.

I'm not running the trial..it's the purchased download version.

When I installed I right clicked on the setup.exe file and chose "run as administrator"

To me, it sounds like the trial version tries to hook up to a server somwhere to veryfy something and it's possible you may need to give this permission to run through your firewall. I'm not entirely sure if this is normal procedure with trial versions from Corel.

I'm guessing here as I didn;t have this problem you are having.

I have experienced this problem with Vista 64bit and the previous version of PI (v12).
The resolution for me at least was to ensure that you run the programme as an administrator. To do this right click on the desktop/quicklaunch/menu shortcut and run as administrator. You can in fact set Windows to permanently run as administrator by finding the .exe file, going to properties and select the option to run it as an administrator
