HDMI image quality and the PS3

Post by tony62 »

I have a Sony HD SR-7 60G Handycam. I can manage to edit the AVCHD files in VS11+. to a HDV file, which I playback on my LG LCD HDTV using my extended desktop from my Notebook. I use WMP to play the HD file and it looks ok... BUT.. nothing like the quality that HMDI playback from the Handycam direct to the HDTV.

The following is what I am planning to do to get the editied project playback the same quality as the HDMI from the handycam to the HDTV:

I do not have a Blu-ray player.
I plan to purchase a Sony Play Station 3 (I never play games) upgraded to the last firmware 2.20.
I believe I can play:
AVCHD files made in VS11+ from PS3 Hard Drive or from network OR from USB flash drive.
Play AVCHD disks on SD DVD disks from the PS3
Play the M2t files on the handycam from the PS3
All these through the HDMI to HDTV from the PS3

As the PS3 plays Blu-ray disks, I do not need a BR Player.

( I enter Short HD Indi Film Festivals so I need to see the finished product as it is projected at these events)

Question is:
Will I get the same quality as the HMDI from Hanycam to HDTV? But in this case I can see my whole edited project.
Too expensive?
Thanks

tony62,

When you playback your video using your Notebook, I'm pretty sure you're using an S-video connection. This is the reason that you notice a difference in quality between your Notebook playback and Handycam playback. The quality of connections (starting with the best) are listed below.

HDMI (HD audio and video)
DVI (HD video only)
Component
S-Video
Composite
Coax

Hope this helps,
Ron
