I got nowhere with Corel email tech support on this issue. The VS10+ project that I am trying to burn is a bit larger than previous ones. Nevertheless, according the the required/available figures on the burn page (both the bracketed ones and the others) my project should fit. Well, when I click on burn, I get a warning that the project may not fit. If I choose to proceed anyway, I get a message that this may take a long time. Sure enough, after about 95% had been copied, the burning stopped.
Reducing the project eliminated the size warning but I was still warned that this may take a long time. I got the same message when I tried a burn project with which I had previously successfully burned dvd's !!
I am using a single mpeg file and the burn properties match the file. I have checked "Do not render mpeg compliant files". Any clues?
Interpreting the required/available figures in the Burn step

That message can pop up even with a 5 minute video.
The fact you have only a single MPEG file does not tell me anything.
This can range from a clip of a few minutes of your dogs running around the back garden, to a single MPEG file that was a TV recording you did overnight and lasts for 5 hours.
What you need to do is work out your bit rates to make sure everything will fit - don't forget to include room for your DVD Menus.
What bit rate settings should I use?

I think that you will find that both VS10 and VS11/11.5+ give the 'this will take some time warning' by default and regardless of whatever you are trying to burn. I get it every time and simply click OK to get the warning off the screen and proceed with the burning. Never had a problem. And of course there is a check box on the warning where you can choose to 'Never show this message again".
One thing is not quite clear, though: when you reduced the size of your project/mpeg-2, did the burn successfully complete or did it again abort after 95%??

Thanks sjj1805 and Ken Berry. No, when I reduced the file size the burn did complete successfully. What is not clear to me is why the original file (which was slightly over 4 Gb) was deemed too large if the required/available figures (bracketed and unbracketed) showed that there was ample space? It seems to me that they are there simply to mislead the user
