Capture problems -Ulead 11.5 plus

Post by Ken Barnes »

After installing a IEEE 1394 Firewire, I have managed to receive both picture and sound from my Sony Camcorder TRV 19E - whiich proves that it does at least deliver this part of the operation. BUT the Capture process keeps cutting out and offering TWO consecutive messages

1. A new device is plugged into your computer. Do you want to use it ?

( THIS IS THE SAME DEVICE AS ALWAYS. WHAT DOES THIS MEAN ? )

2. Capturing failed. The file created is corrupted and unusable. It will be automatically deleted.

( I AM FOLLOWING ALL INSTRUCTIONS TO THE LETTER. WHAT CAN I DO TO CREATE AN UNCORRUPTED FILE ? )

Welcome to the forums,
1. A new device is plugged into your computer. Do you want to use it ?
This is the common Windows prompt telling you it has detected and recognizes the Plug-n-Play (PnP) device. Since you added the new device it wants to know if you want to use it. You should get the same prompt anytime you plug in the firewire cable, or a USB cable.

Do you click "yes" to acknowledge the prompt? If so, and it pops back up, I would re-check the connections, make sure they are firmly connected. Recurring prompts indicate that it may be loose, and everytime the connection re-establishes windows will prompt. Just like unplugging and plugging the cable repeatedly.
2. Capturing failed. The file created is corrupted and unusable. It will be automatically deleted.
This is the error that is/was related to VS11 not being able to capture analog video. Most of those were corrected with the Update Pack. However VS11 still will not allow capturing an analog tape that has been placed in a Digital camcorder.

Also if the connections are not solid, the capture will fail.

Or even more specifically following on from Ron's comment, your DCR-TRV19 is a Sony Digital 8. If (like my DCR-TRV480) you are using it as Ron suggested (i.e. playing an analogue 8mm or Hi8 tape in the Digital 8) then I am afraid that VS11/11+ and patched with the update and Hot Pack to VS11.5+, it will not capture. This is thanks to a new capture plug-in used by InterVideo (IVI)/Corel which replaced previously successful capture plug-ins. So I am afraid you have to use either earlier versions of VS (if you are not using Vista) or else a program like the small and effective freeware capture program WinDV which you can get at www.windv.mourek.cz
