Hi all - thanks in advance for any help. I've been a long-time user, but I haven't had this problem before, mostly because I usually encode outside MSP.
I'm trying to MPG encode at a CBR of 7000 and LPCM. I've changed the "save options" to that, and I get a resulting file which is at 6000 (file size and properties confirm this). I try it from "create multiple files", and directly from the project - same thing. Then, I created a new template with the desired settings, choose that on start-up, and again, I still end up with a resulting file that is 6K bitrate with either of the above methods. It seems that no matter what I do, I end up with 6K (which of course is one of the standard templates in MSP). Funny thing is that when I did a test from a smaller file, I could get it to encode at 7000. I just can't get these other 1 hr files to do so.
Seems like I recall reading about this from other posters on the old CC and DMN forums a few years ago, but I only found this one post here, and with no particular answers http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=6822
Any ideas?
MPG encoding from timeline 7.3 -bitrate unlike my settings
You'll get plenty of replies telling you that 8,536kbps is a bad idea, so I won't go there.
From what I recall, MSP's bitrate settings are not so much "parameters" as "inputs designed to make you feel like you have a say in the matter". The link you supplied suggests to me that MSP8 simply does not encode long files with the requested bitrate.

Hi- thanks - 8536... no, what I didn't say is that I'm wanting an LPCM because I will then tweak the audio as a separate file and I will end up in a final DVD with the audio in AC3, so the fact that I'm trying to get LPCM on top of the 7000 doesn't really matter as far as the math goes. I'm still trying to simply get the video to 7000.
But your point makes me think of something. I wonder if it will let me encode the video ONLY at the 7000...? (I can also render a separate audio file to do my work on it) I think I will try that and report back....
And I guess you're right - it seems that it just lets one "feel" like they have control of the parameters.

To my experiance you rarely get the exact bitrate you specified. But if you specify a higher, you usually get a higher.
Probably the encoder uses a specific "compression strength" dependend on te bitrate. But sometimes the input is easier to compress, so at the end the resulting bitrate will be lower - e.v.v.
So if you want to get a special filesize (e.g. so it fits on a dvd without wasting space), you have to play around.
