Auto Music in Video Studio 11

Post by StanLaurel »

I have a HP laptop with Vista Home Premium (including the recent SP1) and have installed Video Studio 11. Generally the program behaves as it should except that whenever I go to the Audio tab and click on "Auto Music" I get a message pop up saying that Ulead Video Studio has stopped working. There is no other explanation of what is happening and the only option is to close the program. I have completely uninstalled and reinstalled (including the hotfix) but to no avail. Does anyone know of the cause and solution?

Try looking through the SmartSound FAQ's for Ulead products. Click on the following link to go directly there..

SmartSound FAQ for Ulead

NOTE: That the current update for SmartSound (ver 3.0.9.0) has a bug. It causes the music to cut-out, starting at about 3min, 35secs. They are aware of this, and are trying to fix it. The latest stable update is 3.0.6.0, which is available for some of the other NLEs.

Thank you vidoman for that reply. There is nothing on the SmartSound FAQ page remotely like my problem. I have ruled out a problem with the installation disc by successfully installing on another computer (albeit running XP Home). I have also tried Googling the problem but no one else seems to have it. I think, therefore, that it must be some software conflict on my particular computer. The only answer is probably going to be to restore my computer to its original condition and work on from there.

There is a problem with the latest smartsound update so try to re-install the one that ships with VideoStudio 11 contained in your download file
uvs11_plus_contentpack_(e).exe

You can open that file with winzip and extract the smartsound files
Quicktracks.exe
Full Spectrum 22k.exe

Thank you for that advice. I have completely uninstalled VideoStudio and reinstalled from the installation CD but still have the same problem. Looking in the event viewer log gives the following information

Description:
Faulting application vstudio.exe, version 11.0.0.0, time stamp 0x45ebd95b, faulting module SmartSound.dll, version 3.0.0.26, time stamp 0x4059fc18, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x0027fcb0, process id 0x1648, application start time 0x01c89ba413842f62.

Unfortunately, clicking on the online help link merely tells me that there is no information available for this event.
It seems that something is preventing VideoStudio from opening Smartsound, but I have no idea what. It might be that this weekend is spent returning my computer to its original state and reinstalling all programs one at a time to try to identify the culprit.

By way of an update, I have been worrying at this problem like a dog with a bone and have finally sorted it. I found this answer on the Smartsound support pages
http://www.smartsound.com/support/answe ... php?id=780
It did not exactly deal with my problem, but the suggestion of a possible Windows Installer problem seemed to be worth following up. In the event that does seem to have been the cause of it all, so all's well that ends well.

This installer will update Quicktracks to version 3.0.9.0.

So I am still running VS10+ with Quicktracks 3.0.6.0. Is it safe yet to download the latest recommended update? After previous struggles with Smartsound issues, I am holding back until someone says it is safe to jump in. I don't see anything on the Smartsound site saying there is a problem or a fix.

Unless you're having problems with smartsound there is no need to update.

Email communications with SmartSound:
Hello Ron,

Thank you for the information. Does this cut-out happen with any song from the New Standard library or just a specific song? We have a 3.0.6.0 update that I would be interested in knowing if it causes the same problem. If you are willing to test it, you can download it here:
http://www.smartsound.com/support/Quick ... er3060.exe

This would help us narrow down the problem further. The public versions
jumped from 3.0.6 to 3.0.9 so it would be good to know if that is when the
change occurred or if it occured between 3.05 and 3.06.

If the problem does occur in 3.06, please provide me with a step-by-step
procedure so that I can duplicate it for our engineering staff.

If you don't have time, I understand and will give them this information as
is.

Regards,
Scott

Original message follows:
Ulead VS SmartSound Windows XP vupdate 3.0.9.0 Serial:

Error Code:

After updating my Smartsound for Ulead products to the current version
3.0.9.0 any of the Quicktracks would cut-out between 3min 35 secs, and 4mins.
Others have experienced the same thing, at the same time periods.

To confirm it was in fact the update this caused this, I uninstalled
SmartSound from the Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs. I then re-installed
it using the files from my Ulead VideoStudio 11+ Content packs. This
installed the SmartSound version 3.0.5.0. The cut-out problem was not present
with this version.

Again installing the update from 3.0.5.0 to 3.0.9.0 causes the SmartSound
QuickTracks, NewStandard 22k, to cut-out at about 3min 35 secs. This should be addressed and corrected..

Hello Ron,

Sorry for the delay. I was testing 3.0.9 with Ulead 11 and all other
products to see how they were effected. It appears that this problem is
unique to Ulead 11. I tried it in Ulead 9 and there was no cut-out problems.
I will have our engineering team take a look at it, but I am not sure how
quickly they will be able to resolve the problem. They are in the middle of
a development cycle for NAB. For the time being, version 3.0.6 will be fine
for Ulead 11 users.

Scott

Original message follows:
Scott,

Just checking to see if my findings were correct about the 3.0.9.0 SmartSound New Standard 22k update for Ulead products.
Since the download link on your website still reflects this update, is it a
corrected version or is it still the corrupted one?

Until I there is some form of confirmation that this cut-out issue has been
corrected, either by email or a notice posted on the webpage containing the download link, I'm refraining from further updates, advising and warning others to do the same.

Thank you

Ron Petersen
