Split audio

Hello,
Since I am using HDD camcorder, my captured clips are in mpeg format.
When I split the audio I still get it in mpeg format without any option to save it as a audio file.
Is there anyway to save this audio file in wav or mp3 format, so I will be able to edit it (removing noise etc.) in Audacity program?
I am using VS10+
