Hi TrevorM

One final note on your Mismatch problem.

I may be wrong but I think you are inserting your VSP¡¦s, your project files into the library.
Here they look and act like any other clip. A thumbnail representing the Vsp file.
It is now easy to drag them to the timeline, this is inserting a Vsp into a Vsp.
This process is called Nesting. (advanced editing, for want of a better description)

If this is what has happened and you are aware, then there is no problems, provided the inserted vsp¡¦s are not further edited in its own right.

If you do edit and save a vsp, the thumbnail in the library will require relinking.
If its nested then you may see other warning, unable to read/mismatch etc.

Trevor can you check the library, noting the type of files used.

You should also check the content of your projects.
From file preferences set ¡¥clip display mode¡¦ to file name only.
Now view the timeline, are there any VSP files inserted.

OK I may be wrong, but its worth a look.

Re-Link Warning

A Vsp contains various clips, (virtual clips/thumbnails) video, audio, images etc, these clips are saved to your hard drive.
If you delete / move or re-name any clips on your hard drive then the associated project will require re-linking.
If you try to insert a VSP to the library, that requires re-link, you will get a File Format Mismatch warning.

hi.
is there a work-around with inserting a vsp file that's already "nesting" a vsp file into the timeline? (The "grandfahter" vsp containing a "parent" vsp containing "offspring" vsp) I hope that's not confusing.

I get the "file mismatch error" when i try to do it.

Thank you and have a good day.

Hi AJ

Although using “Nesting” to edit our projects is widely used I do not know if it is documented by Corel.???

I have to say that I do not use “nesting”, instead I render the individual VSP’s to a new video file.

What format, I would render to same as first clip to produce a file using the same settings, in my case DV-Avi, these would then be inserted to a project in the normal way.

Ok so that should overcome the nesting problem provided the individual VSP’s open and play correctly in Video Studio.

And have a nice day yourself

I think a project can only contain 1 generation of nesting clips. In other words, no grandkids!

Hi Jeff

As I mentioned I don’t use nesting of my projects, but I see no reason why you shouldn’t be able to insert more than one, so a quick test and I have managed to successfully insert 4 VSP’s into a single VSP, I called this Nesting.VSP.

However I was unable to insert this Nesting VSP into another VSP receiving a File Format Mismatch…..

If that makes sense…………

Trevor,

Were the 4 VSPs all first generation? So you would have:
Holidays.vsp
1. Easter.vsp
2. Thanksgiving.vsp
3. Christmas.vsp
4. Halloween.vsp

Multi-Generation VSPs
Holidays.vsp
1. Christmas.vsp
   1a. Christmas 2005.vsp
        1b. Christmas Eve.vsp
              1ab. Giving Gifts.vsp
The multi-generation "nesting" is what I think Jeff is referring to.

Yes, that is what I meant by one "generation" of nesting. I did not mean you could only nest one VSP.
