So - got home, uninstalled failed installation and cleaned leftovers.
Installed VCredist V2005 x64 from Microsoft downloads - installed WinDVD9 and it worked. Seems like on 64-bit machines you need to insatll manually te 64-bit redits package for VC++.

Hope that will help others too!

SOLVED

I had this same problem (both on install and uninstall) on Vista Ultimate 32bit following a reinstallation.

I tried to use the Radlight Filter Manager to manually install the codec, which told me I was missing/had not registered D3D9_29.dll, so I downloaded that from Gamers Nation and installed that update.

After that, I was able to manually register ivivideo.ax - and now WinDVD9 installs and runs properly.

Hope this helps someone else!!!

What cpu, mobo, vid card, driver?

Uninstall completely, and delete from program files, and re-install.
