I recently tried to create a DVD of my holiday using clips created by my digital video camera, using Ulead Video Studio 11 plus(full registered version). The video was in two sections, the first half was about 20 min. and the second was around 45min so it totaled just over an hour. This project was to fit onto a standard 4.7GB DVD, actually three DVD's. The first DVD was the 20 min. part which rendered and burned OK. The second DVD is where the message box kept on poping up, in fact it was that much of a pain in the *** that I started using my new notebook as it has more memory and a better processor. On the notebook the message "unspecified error" 5.0.0 popped up also so I then created a file (of the same project settings). It rendered and created the file OK. I was then able burn the three DVD's of the three projects (A, B and A+B) I then went back to the PC to burn an A+B project as I would prefer to use UVS on the PC but the same error message popped up while burning the DVD not the usual rendering time. Can anyone throw light on the following queries:
1/. Does Ulead Video Studio pop up any other errors apart from the "unspecified error" 5.0.0.
2/. Why does the message "unspecified error" 5.0.0 pop up while about 5 min. into rendering a 40min project.
3/. Why does the message "unspecified error" 5.0.0 pop up while about 45 min. into burning (outputting data). This was when I was using two LARGE mpg files (894MB and 3.4GB) to create the project, this time using the Wizard.
Unspecified error

Are you burning a project or DVD compatible MPEG-2's? By that I mean are you first creating a video file from your project in the editor (Share>Create Video File)? Then clearing the time line before opening the burn module(Share>Create Disc), and inserting the newly created MPEG-2's?
Though it is possible, and VS is designed to allow using project files (VSP) to create/burn DVDs, we have found that it causes problems and therefore adopted A Recommended Workflow as it pertains to Ulead's VideoStudio Programs. They can be viewed here:
Recommened WorkFlow for VideoStudio
We have found that not having the most current DirectX installed also seems to lend itself to problems. So you might go HERE and download the latest MS Direct-X drivers. The most current is dated March 2008.
Please read this post, and return with as much of the information as possible.

Very Happy
Thanks for your help. I think my problems with Video Studio have been solved. Looks like I was trying to create too large a project all in 1 go, created smaller projects then, rendered them together onto a DVD and it worked perfectly. While doing the smaller projects I came across a couple of faulty files which caused Video Studio to crash. By this time I was getting to know Video Studio better and the corrupt files were found fairly quick.
So thanks again for all your help.

Well, it is good that splitting up the projects revealed some corrupt bits... But I think I should correct a general misapprehension that you seem to have. The length of the two videos you mentioned (894 MB and 3.4 GB) are by no means considered "large" in video editing terms, depending on the format you are dealing in. Those of us with mini DV or HDV cameras, for instance, regularly download and edit whole mini DV tapes which hold 13 GB per hour of video. And many of us regularly will be producing DVD-compatible single mpeg-2 files of 4.3 GB which will fit on a single layer DVD...
In other words, it was not the size of the files which was your problem -- merely the fact that parts of them were evidently corrupt...
