Moving Image in Video

Post by Trunkz Jr »

I want to take a video of someone driving, and add someone elses head in place of the original one. Here's an example:

I couldn't find the tutorial for this, or I am just blind when reading things.

Welcome to the forums,

You didn't find a tutorial because there's not one. Doing that in VS is extremely difficult because it does not have keyframeable motion path. The only motion path in VS is the preset "enter/exit". VS's big-brother MediaStudio Pro can handle this easily. However MSP is being dropped by Corel. While you can still obtain it through Corel, they do not offer any upgrade discount, it is not supported to run on Vista.

Blurring or what's known as number-plate blur, can be done because the video filters are keyframeable. Some have tried to do this, using the crop filter, however the results are not very smooth.

So will they ever have a keyfameable patch in the future? also how come their getting rid of their msp if it can do such things, just cause it doesn't work with vista?

It's unknown if they will add motion paths to VS. I think the main reason for discontinuing MSP, is that Corel is only interested in the consumer market for any of the former Ulead products.

You see about 2 yrs ago, Ulead was purchased by Intervideo Technologies, which a short time later was purchased by Corel. Corel wanted to help its hurting shareholders, with a new division/product line, Digital video.

So for whatever reason, they decided to drop the high-end Ulead products, MediaStudio Pro and DVD Workshop.

As Ron states, you can do it but it is very tedious. If it's only needed for a few seconds you can do it. If it's much more than that you will need a full head of hair (for pulling out), considering one second's worth is 30 (or 25 depending where you are) frames.

You would have to zoom in your timeline to frame level (default is "seconds"). Place the pic of the head in an overlay track, moving it so it covers the face in the main track. Now advance a frame and reposition the "moving head". Advance another frame, reposition the head, etc., etc., etc.

By doing it every frame it looks pretty good - relatively smooth motion.

YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!

Similar to the suggestion by Black Lab if it is only for a SHORT DURATION then you can use this method using an image editing program such as PhotoImpact or Paint Shop Pro.

MediaStudio/VideoStudio: Use A Video Sequence File
