God, with all the conflicting opinions and reports of trouble with downloads, crashes etc. I'm in a quandry as to whether to download the VS9 upgrade or not.
Should I wait a few weeks for bugs to be patched or to try the elusive trial?
Help!!

I bought the box version of VS9 and loaded onto the computer without a hitch. I have Windows XP Service Pack 2, Pentium 4. So the product works for me and many others. I have been editing with it, and enjoy playing with the chroma key second video overlay function...it is fun. I have used the Ulead product since VS6. Yes, some times I had glitches and had to find the patches to fix them, but after that...they worked reasonably well. So I have stuck with the Ulead products.
However, you will hear from some users having problems, from time to time on this forum. The reason this forum exists, is to allow those who have problems to air them out and hopefully some one can assist them.
The majority that do not have a problem, do not come onto this forum to complaint, but to help the others less fortunate.

I have VS9 and haven't had a single issue with it.
It's running on a P4 3.0HT w/1gig RAM, and a 3.4Ghz HT with 2 Gigs RAM. Both systems hum with it.

Boxed or downloaded?
What is the difference between the boxed and downloaded update (apart from the obvious, you don't get a CD)?
Once I've downloaded can I burn an image for later use and backup?

If you do manage to download and install it then there is no difference in functionality - the only difference is that if you get a problem later you can run a repair from the disc in the boxed version.
The only other difference is that the vast majority of people on here who have installation/start-up problems appear to me to be people who downloaded the upgrade, I purchased the boxed upgrade - it installed and runs with absolutely no problems whatsoever

I bought the ESD version of UVS in the past just because I wanted to get the new version right away, but I ran into too many problems and decided to get the boxed upgrade shipped to me this time.
I experienced the same issues that have already been reported: slow or incomplete downloads, missing files that caused the install to fail and required me to re-download a fixed version, components that aren't included with the ESD version (codecs), and finally the inability to use the "Repair" option in the Control Panel. Mind you, this was with V8, and it seems that Ulead hasn't learned from that.
It would be one thing if the ESD version got you an ISO image that you could burn onto a CD, and which would be identical to the boxed version except for the delivery method, but unfortunately that's not the case.
To me, the ESD option is just not worth the trouble.
