VideoStudio 11.5 plus audio problem

Post by garyt »

I previously used 10.0 plus and have just installed 11.5 plus. I wish to capture video from a VCR. This worked fine on 10.0 but on 11.5 I have no audio. I also cannot find any option for selecting the audio input device (previously I had 3 audio devices to choose from). Also the only capture plug-in device availble is "IVI Capture Component". Any ideas?

VideoStudio 11.5 plus audio problem

Post by garyt »

I have visited "No Sound" and it does not answer my question. It does not address the lack of a "audio input device" option and it does not address the "IVI Capture Component" being the only available capture plug-in available. Did you actually read my question or just look at the subject line?

Anyone else have an answer, otherwise I will not be buying 11.5 and will stick with 10.0 and all it's problems. Don't you guys ever test your software???

It is only "our" software in the sense that we bought it from Ulead/Corel. None of us here work for Corel. We are all users like you who volunteer our time here to try to help out. As far as we are aware, Corel employees seldom if ever visit this forum.

I can't help with the "audio input device" aspect. As for the IVI Capture Component, Corel in their wisdom dropped the variety of capture plug-ins used in previous versions because they were based on Video For Windows (VFW) and Direct Show which Corel maintains is inconsistent with Vista (even though some [many?] users have VS11/11.5+ installed on XP computers). This however does not, to my mind, address the conundrum that Adobe and Pinnacle programs are still using Direct Show-based plug-ins that appear to work fine with Vista.

Personally, I believe the changeover occurred in the brief period after Ulead was taken over by InterVideo (which is what the IVI stands for) and before or soon after InterVideo/Ulead was itself taken over by Corel.

Not much of an answer, I know, but that is what we have all been landed with. Apart from anything else, the new capture component blocked capture of analogue-sourced video using any device which is connected to the computer via Firewire (mini DV or Digital 8 cameras being used as pass-through devices, external analogue capture devices which capture in DV format, and Digital 8 cameras actually playing an analogue 8mm or Hi8 tape). A patch was produced which partially corrected some, but not all of this.

All this begs the question of what device you are using to capture from your VCR -- an external device or internal capture card? Make and model? If external, how does it connect to your computer?

You also don't give any of your system details so we don't even know whether you are using XP or Vista. It also now appears that you are using a trial version of VS11 which, as far as I am aware is version 11+ as there is no trial version of VS11.5+.

If you are using a capture device connected via firewire to your computer, then the 6 November 2007 patch will partially fix the problem. But patches do not work with trial versions anyway.

If you are using some other device and Vista, have you visited the manufacturer's website for updated Vista drivers? Did the device come with any capture software? If so, does that manage to capture video with audio?

The bit I was hoping you would read starts with

You need to make sure the correct recording device is selected.
