From the Help File:
Using Ad-Zapper
VideoStudio lets you search your videos for commercial intervals. Clicking this feature extracts the commercials to the media list.

- Detection sensitivity(the slider) allows you to control the rate of distinguishing between commercials.
- Merge CF merges all your extracted clips that are identified as commercials.

A great shame Ad Zapper wasn't included in VS 11 (the non-plus version.) I didn't buy Plus because I doubt I'll use HD technology before upgrading again anyway, but taking out the ads manually (even with 'multi-split video') is a royal pain!
It also makes you realise just how many ad breaks there are in current TV broadcasts, it's getting dangerously close to 50/50 with content now.

If you have Multi-trim video, is basically the same as Add Zapper. I'm not impressed with Add Zapper. I've tried using it a couple of times on video that was recorded on VHS. It missed about 1/3 of the commercials.
The 6 additional overlay tracks, ability to cut clips in the overlay tracks was the major selling point for me.

To me "Ad-Zapper" despite the fact it seems to work is a gimmick.
I would not trust a computer to pick out what it thinks are commercials based upon algorithms such as scene change information. I prefer to find them manually.
It would be like one of those Film Sets where the good guy (Dirty Harry for example) goes out on a firing range with his Magnum and up pop the baddies which he has to shoot, but also a few innocent members of the public - often mothers with prams - he must avoid shooting.
