Project Preview without Proxies

Post by MikeGranby »

I'm editing AVHD files from a Canon HG10, and it seems that I get very poor performance during project playback. Clip playback is fine, but project playback is very jumpy. The only way I seem to be able to get acceptable performance is with proxy files. This isn't too much of a problem, but I thought from the material from Corel that VC11.5 could edit HD without proxies on a reasonably poweful machine. The PC I'm using is a twin Dual-Core 3.3GHz with 15000rpm SAS disks and 2GB of RAM, so it's no slouch. Am I missing something? Or should I just resign myself to having to generate the proxies ahead of time? It's a bit disappointing given what's on the website...

One would think that your machine would hum right along. However the problem is that VS does not make efficient use of all those cores. You might as well just have dual or duo core..;)

The next version is suppose to take better advantage of multi-core processing.

What I don't understand is that...

http://www.ulead.com/vs/UVS11Plus_FB.pdf

...says...

Non-Proxy HDV Editing Requires:
• Intel® Pentium® 4 3.0 GHz or higher with Hyper-Threading technology
• Microsoft® Windows® XP (Service Pack2 for HDV camcorder support recommended)
• 1 GB of RAM (2GB or more recommended)
• 16X PCI Express™ display adapter

So why does my machine need proxies???
