VideoStudio 9 SE and Gateway AMD 64 Bit PC compatibility??

Post by jackcable2002@yahoo.com »

Hi ,
I have a Gateway Desktop with AMD 64 Bits , and VideoStudio 9 SE.
I wonder if the Spec's are enough to run smootly VS9 SE?
This VS9 SE came bundle with ADS Video transfer to PC box.

Also can I setup the "Pan & Zoom" for all clips ?
like I'm doing it with the "Transisions" ?.

Can someone let me know.

Tks, in advance.
JB.

First, I hope you are aware that the letters SE in your version of VS9 indicate that it is not the full version, but a 'special [i.e. crippled] edition' distributed free with hardware.

Next, Adstech, which made your capture device, is notorious for ensuring that their hardware only works with their own special software which comes with the hardware. Normally, they include a special capture program called CapWiz which in fact works very well. Normally, you would capture with that program, then edit in VS9 SE. In the past, though, Adstech did in fact modify some SE versions of VS to allow them to actually capture as well. But this does not mean that subequent retail versions of VS will do so.

I am sorry, but I don't have VS9 installed on any of my computers just now, so I can't answer your Pan and Zoom question. VS9 was, as far as I can recall, the first version which included the feature. However, I seem to recall that it may only have worked with still images. VS10 and 11, however, work also with video clips. But if I am wrong in this (and I may well be! ) someone will, I am sure, quickly jump in here and point this out...

In all that plethora of computer details you gave, I cannot seem to see which operating system you have. However, my own personal opinion is that if you are using XP, then 1 GB is more than enough. I have an old P3 1 GHz with only 512 MB running XP, and it works fine if sometimes slowly with VS (though admittedly only with VS10 and not with VS11/11.5+).

However, Vista is a resource hog, and your computer might be at the lower end of computers that can run it. Even though Microsoft specifies 512 MB Ram as minimum requirement for Vista, my own experience has been that 2 GB or more of RAM is needed to run it properly, and have room left over for other programs like VS. (But Vista also has a notorious problem in being able to handle, or at least properly display, RAM over 3 GB.)

You are exact about the OS, I currently use XP Media Center.

Tks, again Ken.

Your system specs are more than adequate for XP
However...... VS9 did not include XP Media Center Edition as a supported operating system I recall a few users of that particular operating system posting problems with VS9.

The current version 11 does list XP Media Center as a supported operating system but you might want to wait a while because VS12 has recently been released in Japan so hopefully it will be released in other regions soon.
