cannot capture..help

Post by peacefrog »

Hi all,
i have a friends panasonic, nv-gs30 mini dv video camera.(apparently, it has a digital converter so the footage is already digital-
but i am having capturing footage.

Now, i cannot see the footage normally on the camera (so there is one problem, but when i initially tried to see footage through VS8 i could see footage but when i try to capture the whole pc stalled and i had to (cos i have ext HD) do a quick format.

So, i hook up firewire to the camera...no prob
go to vcr mode on camera...no prob
press play on US8 and there is no picture(there is sound from within camera but no footage is shown)

the source acknowledges panasonic-msdv
and format as DV

my proj properties are
PAL 25 fps
microsoft avi (if film is already digitized will this be ok since i have to do editing?)
24 bits, 720x576
4:3
lower field first
video encoder type 1
44.1khz
16 bits stereo

(is this a dud camera?)

help
cheers

check if that audio is what was recorderd. it doesn't look right at 44.1khz (it should be either 32khz or 48khz -- depending on 12-bit or 16-bit recording). Check the camcorder's menu system to see what the audio is being recorded at...
