how to "group" clips and other question

Post by alessandrobelli »

I'am working with demo of vs11, I've tryed PE4 and Vegas plat. I don't find in vs11 any command to make a group of many clip and move them together on the time line. Is this function missing?
Is possible to rotate a video of a custom degree? I find only step of 90.

What's the difference between ver 11 plus and 11.5 plus? The demo in only ver. 11

Welcome to the forums,
I don't find in vs11 any command to make a group of many clip and move them together on the time line. Is this function missing?
With VS this can be done only in the Overlay tracks. Select the first video clip, press and hold the [Shift] key, select the last video clip, this is the same method commonly used by Windows to multi-select files and objects.
In the Main Video track, all videos automatically slide or "ripple" to the left to keep from having any blank spaces.
Is possible to rotate a video of a custom degree? I find only step of 90.
No, only 90 degree increments.
What's the difference between ver 11 plus and 11.5 plus? The demo in only ver. 11
Have a look at the comparison chart. As far as I know, the trial version is of VS11 Plus. If you have more than 1 overlay track it is the plus version.

even on main track I can use shift+click to select multiple clips, but there is no way to group and keep them all toghether forever.
Comparison chart shows only difference between ver 11 and 11.5 plus but not between 11 plus (that is the demo) and 11.5 plus (that is the one selled).
I've tryed to render a short project (2 minute hdv from canon Hv20) on a file as hd-dvd, but I was never able to complete it: or I get an error "Unable to render to file [2000:1:1]" or when it is on 2% it stop working, and I have to close the application with taskmanager.

No there is not a "grouping" function. VS uses what's called Ripple Edting. It locks the overlay, title, and audio tracks to the Main video track. So when you move a clip, change duration, add transitions, the overlay tracks will ripple to remain in sync with the main track.

VS11.5 is 11.0 plus with the Upgrade Power Pack. http://www.ulead.com/tech/vs/vs_ftp.htm

Thank you for your indication. I read that with tryal version is not possible to apply the powep pack to see what changes.
An other question.
How can I replace a small part of audio of a clip, just remove few seconds and insert an other one? the only way I found to edit the audio is to split audio and video but the audio goes on voice track and I cannot rejoin the corrected audio with video to leave voice track free.
Is there other way to do it?

Yes you're correct, that any updates (patches, fixes) or upgrades can not be applied to trial versions. However you can no longer purchase the 11.0 Plus version, they are only offering the 11.5 Plus version, which nullifies the need for the Power Pack. The Power Pack is what upgrades the 11.0 Plus to 11.5 Plus.

Right again..;) You must split the audio in order to edit. There is one possible way to rejoin the audio with the original, however it's a "workaround". Prior to trying this, Save your Project!!!

You would need to cut the video clip to isolate what you want to edit, and then rejoin. Delete the other portions, leaving just this part. Now split the audio, and delete it. Now create your voice over, or whatever you're intending to do. With this new audio, and only the cut clip, in the project, go to Share>Create VideoFile, and choose either Same as Project or Same as First Video. This will render a new video clip with the same properties, however the edited audio will now be mixed back into the video.

Now close your project. If you've saved as above, do not save it now when prompted. If you do, and not provide a different file name, your project above will be over-written. Now open the project above, and replace the cut portion of the video with this newly created one. Now the clip has the audio you want in it, and you still have the voice track free.

***NOTE***
VS12 will probably be released by the end of this month. It seems to offer much, much more... So how long do you have left on the trial? May be worth waiting a couple of weeks..;)

Thank you again. The news about vesion 12 is good, for sure I will wait for it, the tryal version has 5 days used.
I find vers11 rich in effects, but edit option are not fast and easy as they should be. Premier elements and Vegas is much more easy and powerfull by this point. For example to substitute a pice of audio track I can just cut the 'bad' part and insert the new one.

I hope for ver12 there will be a demo to try.

As far as I know you can do that with VS , at least VS 10 can.

With the audio clip in the timeline, use the scissors to cut the clip.
Then delete the section.

Add a new clip.

Trevor,

Yes that can be done in VS11, however if I read the OP's question correctly, he wanted to also "rejoin" the audio with the video, so that it would leave the voice track free. While you can split, delete, and record, you would need to render an intermediate file to free up the voice track, or try using the "VSP" in "VSP" workaround..;)
