Hi ,
I've got a wierd problem with the WinDVD trial - it just doesn't start on my computer at all? I'm a long time WinDVD user, but recently moved to Cyberlink PowerDVD for Blu-ray support (it came for free with my drive), but when I saw the new WinDVD 9 I wanted to give it a whirl... but with no joy.
So, my steps are:
1 - Install (Using the free trial downloaded from Corel)
2 - Program pops up a question about registering... I enter my Corel login details and it says "thanks for registering", the program then immediately exits. I even tried doing the offline registration (i.e enter my trial key), with no joy. (I get an email though, saying "thanks for registering", so it is clearly talking to Corel at this point)
3 - Any future time I try to start the program it doesn't ask me to register... just starts, doesn't even show any screen and immediately exits - I can only see this in the task manager?
I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling, even trawling the registry to try to remove anything related to Intervideo/Corel/Protexis (I read about this licencing thing causing problems on other Corel products and had a bit of 'fun' with Paint Shop Pro and this) without any joy. I had removed WinDVD 8 (previous version I used) a few weeks ago.
My set-up... I have dual monitors, tried disabling one of those to see if it was the cause, it made no difference. I also disabled my antivirus/firewall to see if it was causing the problem, again no difference. I also killed off any processes relating to PowerDVD in case that had a conflict.
Primary Monitor: Dell 27" 2707WFC (HDCP enabled & HD Ready)
Secondary Monitor: Formac (Not HDCP) - Disabling made no difference
Graphics: Geforce 8800 GTS (Also HDCP)
Windows Vista 32bit Premium
As the Cyberlink program plays blu-rays without issue I'd be surprised if it was hardware related?
Anyone have any thoughts what might be causing this? I was planning on purchasing the software but now I'm wondering if I'll be stuck with a dead duck if I do.
Thanks for any advice - I am wondering if I made a mistake during the first install I did that somehow corrupted my setup (I use Kaspersky Internet Security which warns when programs try and change the registry etc, I thought I'd clicked yes all the time though) - but I can't seem to get to find any 'cleaning' instructions unlike with previous versions of WinDVD (i.e. remove this folder, these registry keys, these files)
PS: I know the trial won't show blu-ray DVDs... I was going to check with a normal DVD that I liked the program (and not sure on HD-DVDs whether they work or not with the trial), but since I can't get it started I'm not certain.

Hello I got the same problem here
The WinDVD9 I have installed in my laptop running on Vista 32 Home Basic does'nt work. The program was able to view the splash screen the the WINDVD logo and load the the main window and it stops right there.
I tried installing the program in my laptop running on Windows XP. WinDVD9 works but it has lots of missing features in it or shall I say "bugs." There are no subtitle when I play my DVDs.
I have read an article from other forums, they say I have to install first directx runtime and C++ runtime library to make it work. Still it freezes.
Now, I'm using WinDVD 8.0 maybe I'll consider upgrading when the time comes that I don't have to go through such hassles.

Corel's rather useless answer was....
I don't think my computer would be too happy if I disabled all the services it relies upon (Raid, sound, antivirus, firewall), I replied back asking for a more specific explanationThank you very much for your e-mail. Try to disable all your Services thru the MSconfig. Just click on Start>Run then typed in Msconfig then click Services then enable/check Hide all Microsofts Services click Enable then OK. Download and reinstall WinDVD 9 trial version from our website.
Please do not hesitate to contact us for any further questions.
Kind regards,
