Post by Doctor Keo »

Hi, I downloaded (now 3 times) the trial. The installation goes well - It seems. When I run the program nothing happens. I'm running Vista 32 bit SP1 - 4 gig Ram, Dual core 64 processor AMD 3800+, 80 gig free on the HDD. I've updated to the latest assoc programs QT etc. Any ideas? Thanks

Welcome to the forums,

When you reinstalled did you just use the Control Panel> Add/Remove? If so you might try one more time using the method described here:
http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... 5773#55773

I've had some issues with Vista's UAC (User Account Control).

Thanks for the assistance - Sadly this didn't help. I've done a complete uninstall and run CCleaner and Fixit utilities to make sure (as far as I can tell) there isn't any problems before install. The only thing I didn't mention was my video card it's a Nvidia 8500GT. After I run the program unloads its self - If I look at Task manager there isn't anything running - Are there any diag switches to give me a clue where next to look? - Thanks

Did you try turning off UAC before installing? Like I mentioned above, I've had some problems with that worthless feature in Vista, to the extent it would cause the PC to completely crash..

Hi, Thanks again - Yes, I tried installing with it on and off. I normally run with it off. I also run Cclean and Fixit with the UAC on and off just incase. I also run the program after the install with the UAC on and off. The only difference was the confirmation.

Vista can be a real PITA sometimes... :x

Some other options to try are:
  1. Exempting VS from Data Execution Prevention (DEP).
  2. Not running Vista Aeros
  3. Try Right-clicking on the VS launcher icon, and selecting Run as Admin.
  4. Ensure that you have the most recent DirectX (Nov '07 or March '08)
  5. Try disabling Windows Defender before installing or running.
Instructions for Above Suggestions:
  1. View This Post for instructions on DEP for Vista machines.
  2. To Disable Windows Aeros.
Start>Control Panel>Personalization>Windows Color & Appearance. Then click on the Open classic appearance properties.... In the Appearance Settings dialog window, select another Scheme, such as Vista basic.
  3. Self explanatory.
  4. Go HERE and download the latest MS Direct-X drivers. The most current is dated March 2008.
  5. To make changes to Windows Defender:
Start>Control Panel>Windows Defender. Then click on Tools, then Options.
I hope one of these help get your VS running. I can not think of anything else that may prevent it from running.

Thank for your help but I give up. I tried most things now and in all honesty I lost faith in this product. This on takes the biscuit! I'm so disappointed with Corel. I know that Vista can be a pain but this program is SUPPOSED to run on Vista not the other way round! I've Used Ulead Videostudio 9 for most of my home movies but it looks like I will have to find another. I've installed Magix Movie Edit Pro 14 plus which has installed the first time without any problems and is running fine. I¡¦m a computer programmer and in all the years I¡¦ve written programs, and in fact I can¡¦t remember any of my colleagues either writing programs, that would not even run on release!
Thanks again for trying ¡V Doctor Keo

A few possible causes:

1. Faulty installation program - try downloading a fresh copy.
2. Faults on the hard drive - run Chkdsk

Plese read all of this topic - I have downloaded the program 3 time - I have checked the disk out, defrag the hard disk - In fact run every utility I have to check the computer and Vista out. Please explain why have an installion program that reports a sucess if it isn't true. A program that doesn't run and not report any errors - What kind of programmers do Corel employ!
