HDV Split Problem

Post by elai1108 »

Hi all,

I captured a full tape in HDV using VS10+ into a single MPEG. I wish to save time splitting the file manually into scenes (which I used to do). So I tried to split this file into individual MPEGs using HDVSplit, but the output was one file with name "noTime".

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I'm not sure what else to try next.

Can anyone help point me in the right direction please?

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the HDV Split problem with VS - you get two different options both with issues:
1) VS - As you have found it is VERY ANNOYING that VS does not support Split by Scene during HDV Capture - unfortunatly you get one big file. The good side is that VS does an on the fly conversion Transport Stream to Progam Stream conversions (eg the resultant file is MPEG-PS in a M2TS containter). The PS nature of the file is good as many playback filters will stutter on TS files and it saves time in having to recode. Unfortunatly HDVSlit can not process these files any futher as I assume the time stamp has at this point been lost.
2) HDV Split - You can Capture using with HDVSplit direct from the Camcorder (well I can from my HV20) and it will split your footage up by scene based on Time Stamp - perfect but the resultant files are stored as MPEG-TS in the M2TS container - so if you want good PC compatibility you then need to transcode into MPEG-PS (the HDV PC option in VS).

I've asked Ulead support several time when (if) they are going to support Split by Scene during capture.....but no real response....

Thanks

Hi jimone,

Thanks for the info. In regards to: "Unfortunatly HDVSlit can not process these files any futher as I assume the time stamp has at this point been lost."

Can anyone confirm this?
