Hello all,
I' m becoming rather desperate and was hoping if you could offer any assistance.
I was a happy user of VS 9 and edited several DVDs. Until suddenly when finishing my current project, VS 9.0 started to crash. It did so every time I edited a clip or tried to burn the project on DVD.
What did I do so far :
- several clean reinstalls (following procedure on this website) and re-installation of VS 9, afterwards I installed VS 10
- clean reinstall and installation of trial version of VS 11+
- deleting of all previously captured files of the project (.avi and .vsp) and re-captured the images
Unfortunately all with the same result : when editing (trimming) a clip, the program just shuts down.
I'm at the point of no return and I really don't feel like reformatting my PC (never done it before & time consuming), and I doubt if it will bring the solution.
Thanks for your help!

Without knowing for sure it sounds to me it may have something to do with perhaps something you have installed recently (or between when it used to work... and now)
But it would also be good to know what format the native video format is straight out of the camcorder (video properties). Making sure your Project Properties match your Video project Properties.
Video Properties can be founf out by right clicking on a video in the timeline.
Hopefully we can get you up and running again

Clevo:
Like you, I too believe that if he captured in DV format, the project properties should also be in DV format. He completes all his editing, and only then converts it to mpeg-2 (Share > Create Video File > DVD).
From that, I assume they are DV/AVI -- though it would be useful if the OP could confirm it and that he captured via firewire.Source file & Devices

Hi Ken... Yeah I saw that but I then looked at this UK based site:
http://www.sony.co.uk/view/ShowProduct. ... MiniDV#tab
But yes...a confirmation would be ideal.

I know it is not gonna be fantastically helpful, but the same happened to me long time ago - I did very long investigations, unsuccessful (and I'm pretty much use to this kind of investigation). The only solution I had was to roll back to a former Windows installation image and everything went back in order (I'm always careful with Windows self-degrading capabilities - ok some programs might help too, so I do a monthly differential disk image, that's also why I'm heavily using VirtualPC or VirtualBox to do trials of programs on a "test" Windows version)

For all the people having the same problem. Mine seems to be solved!
I deleted all my codec packs (K-lite codec pack), and the following programs TMG encoder, Nero Burn and Nero Vision. Basically anything which might interfere with AVI files. I reinstalled VS 10.0 and so far so good.
Final test will be this WE when I will edit a new project and reinstall Nero again.

Codec packs usually do more harm than good.
