Transition and split problem

Post by alanball »

Hi all, this is my first time on the board, I have two problems with transitions with VS8.

The first is nealy evertime I split a video I get a warning saying that the adjacent tensition will be deleted if I peform the split. Does anyone know why this happens? I thought it may be that I am trying to make the split too close to the transition, but I tried it well away and it still happens.

The second is that sometimes when inserting the 3D transition "flying Split" the transition does not insert and where the trasition should be is blacked out with a white dash in the middle when in storyboard view. When I run in Project view it has not inserted the transition. Any ideas why this happens?

Thanks

Problem 1 -- this is a default of Video Studio and can't, to my knowledge, be turned off. Many people thus leave insertion of transitions till last and get their other editing out of the way first. Otherwise you will spend all your time re-inserting transitions (and worrying about it!! )

Problem 2 -- no ideas, I'm sorry. Is it only with that one transition. When you double click on that part of the storyboard, does anything happen in the preview window?

Thanks Ken, just another thing to think about. As for item 2 it only seems to be that transition, and no nothing happens in the preview window.

Hi Alan

Transitions VS 8
I see a transition in the 3D section called ‘Flying Flip’
It looks as you described and seems to work ok.

What is the duration of your transition?
Check the duration of the clips either side of the transition.
If you have inserted adjacent to a short clip then the transition will be reduced to match.

Thanks Trevor, a bit late getting back to you, not had chance to get on the computer for a few day's. I think you were right about the transition being too close to the start of a clip where I had edited a couple of frames out. The transition seems to work further away.

Thanks
