Query about the timer in VS8

Post by Keith C »

Can someone tell me why there is discrepancy as follows...

I drop an image clip in the time line (default duration 5 secs).
The timer at top left of screen says it is 5 secs... bit when the clip is played, the timer at bottom right of preview window shows only 4.24 secs.

Similarly if I drop another 5 sec image next to the 1st image (no transitions, just 2 image clips) the timer at top left says 10 seconds and playing the project once again gives a total of 9.24 secs.

BUT if I drag the jog bar across the images manually then the 2nd clip comes in after 5 secs indicating that the 1st clip is 5 secs long.

I hope I have explained this properly.I 'm baffled!

It's not 4.24 seconds, it's 4 seconds and 24 frames. You're in PAL land, where every second has 25 frames.

Lol. Thanks Torsten...

Would I seem picky if I asked why it doesn't show 4.25 then?

Or even 5.00?

Thanks for your quick reply.

Because the first frame is at 0 seconds plus 0 frames, the last of the 25 frames in the first second would thus be at 0 seconds plus 24 frames.

If you are at 1 second plus 0 frames, your video is actually 26 frames long.

As for the original question regarding the missing second, do you have a transition on either side of the image? That might cut away a bit of the image duration at either end...
