Rendering WMV files in Vs11+ on Vista x64

Post by EvilHomerClone »

I have been using VideoStudio 11 for a while now on my laptop that is Vista 32 bit with no problems. I just got my desktop up and running (powerhouse pc) and I installed vista 64bit. When I go to run VideoStudio on my 64bit machine, I am unable to render WMV files with codec 9. Even when I select it from the menu options, the video render's in WMV 8. For me to render in WMV 9 I have to create a massive AVI file then using Windows Media Encoder, recode it with WMV9.

I am even tried installing Vista x32 on that same desktop and that works just like my laptop. Which is why I am wondering of x64bit os is causing the issue? I have tried reinstalling the WMV9 codec, over and over again. Nothing has seem to fix this issue. even doing a clean os install and only having VideoStudio installed (also having all OS updates installed as well which includes newest directx).

I am running ALL of the updates for VideoStudio. Is this normal??

Don't know about normal but certainly not unusual!
From reading similar problems on this and other forums the real culprit here seems to be the WMV encoder itself. The 32bit versus 64bit thing may be precipitating the problem but as a general rule of thumb the WMV Encoder series does not always like to play nice with other software.
A work around is to complete the project in VS then render to a final video file based on the same properties as your original footage.
Then open Windows Media Encoder and get it to directly to the encode rather than have it done via VS.

i was worried to hear that. I also have Proshow Producer 3, and when i started to go to Vista x64 months ago, I was having problems with Direct Draw. Now that issue is fixed, but I am still stuck with this.

I check every week to see when VS12 is coming out. I have downloaded other apps, and I am not saying that VS11+ is the best but it is MUCH easier to use then Vegas & Premier Pro.

It sucks even worst because the videos I am trying to create have DD 5.1 and I have to split and reattached.... pain in the butt.

Thanks for the quick reply!
