Problem with quality
Hi again!
After successfully burning 2 dvds we sat down to watch them (on the TV) and the footage is very pixelated when the camera moves fast on the video. I just checked the captured footage and it's the same.
My master is Hi8 8mm videotape - is this problem to be expected or have I done something wrong in the settings?
Thanks again
Michelle

Michelle,
If the captured footage is pixelated then it is the capture process that is at fault.
OR
Is the video on the tape when played on the cam pixelated?
How did you connect the Hi8 cam to the pc?
In your last post you were talking about capturing dv.avi files, but your cam is analogue and different hardware would be needed to connect it to the pc to enable you to capture as dv.avi, so please be as precise as you can.

Hi again
The tape, when played on the camera, is perfect.
It's connected with a USB cable that plugs into "DV" on the camera.
I'm not actually sure what files I should capture! I just press capture and it seems to do it all automatically. Because of an email I received, I tried to find avi files but it would never highlight on the menus. I just let the capture happen automatically and then made a video file as was suggested and then burned to dvd.
I did have one file that said AVI (I think but I have deleted it now) but it was 12 gb and kept crashing.
Apologies, I'm trying to be as precise as I can but I don't fully understand what I'm doing!

Are you sure your cam is a Hi8 and not a D8, or digital8.
Hi 8 do not have a firewire or dv port, so I assume it must be a digital 8 model. Also USB cables do not plug into dv/firewire ports, so I assume it must be a firewire cable.
Take a look at this apge
http://www.myvideoproblems.com/WebPages ... m#Firewire
and check out the picture link to see if you have a firewire cable/port.
dv.avi files are about 12gb for one hour.
You can use avicodec to find out what sort of files you have

Does the video play ok on the tape in the camera if connected to the tv?

HI
It's a Sony Digital 8 DCR-TRV 250E PAL.
I have no idea what a firewire is - how do I find that?

You're right - that's what I've got - I thought it was a usb. That means I have the right input correct?

I've just been going through your tutorial and I notice that on my software I don't have the DV-to-DV Wizard.
As I don't need to do any editing at all - just save to DVD that would seem like my best option but I don't have it. Does that mean there is something wrong with my software?

What version are you using? Is it a full (purchased) or SE (bundled with some piece of hardware)? To determine the latter click on the ? and select About...
You should have on the startup screen 3 options:

If you don't have the startup screen enabled, you go straight into the VideoStudio Editor. From there click on Tools menu, and the first option should be DV-DVD Wizard. If not, something went wrong on your install, unless you're using VS8. The DV-DVD Wizard was introduced with VS9.

It's supposed to be the full version as I ordered and paid for it and had a computer guy come and install it. He also bought the cables and hooked up the camera. Unfortunately the company he worked for went bust and he now works somewhere else in China. I had another guy who spoke English come but he didn't know the software at all and wasn't any use. That's the supply of computer people who speak English totally exhausted so I'm on my own!
No, only have the bottom two. I'm going to uninstall and reinstall to see if that helps.

I've just pulled out the disk (I have no ? on my software) and it says SE DVD so does that mean they sold me a version that was not a full one? Gggrrrrr....there's nothing I can do about it now he's gone.
It's so frustrating! We've just found out today that our move to the States is now happening in 2 weeks and I need to get this done before I go. Can I purchase an upgrade on-line?

The SE are bundled versions. So if it was included with hardware, like a video capture card, then you didn't purchase the software. However if you just purchased the software, well I'd say you've been had.
You should be able to upgrade on-line. You still haven't said what version? If it is a real old version it may not qualify for an upgrade.
