I was getting this same error message when installing WinDVD 9 on a fresh install of Windows XP with Service Pack 3.

I fixed it by updating DirectX

DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer

Same here, I had recently installed SP3 on XP, and installed Corel WinDVD was getting the same error code. So, I uninstalled WinDVD 9...installed Direct X June 2008, and then reinstalled WinDVD 9 without any problems...

no need to copy the IVIVIDEO.ax file
no need to dump temp files and folders
no need to edit the registry

so PATRICK1978's solution is the SOLUTION...over and out.

Good work.

Same Same Problem as Gary

Post by carmsantoro »

 I have downloaded winDVD9 and am running Vista. I have the same thing happening as Gary. The download seems OK the install goes well except for that same error message. I have tried every solution in this thread and the program begins to start then aborts and nothing happens?? I have installed and uninstalled three times but still that same problem. When I went to the website suggested for ivivideo.ax it said that the file had been removed.

What can I do next to make this work??

Steve,

Thanks for the file. Do I re-install WinDVD and then substitute the new IVIVIDEO.ax file for the old one??

Thanks

If you think that file is causing your problem the first thing I would try is to replace your existing one with the one from my download link.
If that does not get it working again then try uninstalling/re-installing WinDVD. Note also the other posts that mention updating to the latest version of DirectX

Installing the DirectX update that I linked to in my previous post is also required on Windows Vista and Windows 7 (or at least it's required for the Release Candidate) in order for WinDVD 9 to install properly.

It was also required for WinDVD 8 but the installer would actually warn you if you needed it before it would let you install, which is how I figured out that I needed to update DirectX since all the other "solutions" in this thread were completely useless.

The update should be installed BEFORE installing WinDVD.

If you have already installed WinDVD then uninstall it, then install the DirectX update, then reinstall WinDVD.

Also note that the link I posted should always point to the latest DirectX update which is updated every few months.

I do not appear to have DirectX on my machine. Where can I get a clean version and what is the latest complete rev??

Thanks

Thanks for all your help. Installing DirectX did the trick and I did not need an updates version of IVIVIDEO.ax
