Loading file error

Post by diasdm »

Hi
I'm trying to add some AVI files do WS2 but when I try to load them I get the error message:
"Unable to open file [C:\Docu...].
File reading error."
And there is a code next to the OK button: [17101:1:42].

Another problem is that, when I add MPG files it just won't add the sound, only the video. :?

Do you guys know what that is? Why is it happening?
Thank you

Until you tell us a lot more (hardware and software) and what kind of AVI files and MPEG files (source/codec/settings/size etc), you don't have a snowball's in hell chance of getting a satisfactory reply. Read PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE POSTING... thread. All we can say is that your files are either incompatible or corrupt and that is not helpful to you.

True, there are over 800 different avi file types, some of which are the multitude of mpeg's and of course dv.avi.
Mpegs can be elementary stream which is video and audio separate m2v and wav or programme stream, where the two files are multiplexed together m2p. The first you need to add the audio the second it should alreay be in place.

Well
I had these videos uploaded to Youtube than I redownloaded them in AVI format using Easy Video Downloader with the "high quality" option.

I did the same thing with the mpg files, but I used VDownloader a while ago.

They all have between 8 and 30Mb.
And how can I get hte files infor anyway?

I got the info

Post by diasdm »

I think i got some info now.
According to Media Player the avi files use ffdshow Audio Decoder and ffdshow Video Decoder with 320 x 240 size, and the MPG files use ffdshow Audio Decoder and MPG Video Decoder also with 320 x 240 size.

Use avicodec or Gspot, that'll tell you exactly what you have, links here
http://www.myvideoproblems.com/WebPages ... rammes.htm

In the mean time I can tell you that the files you have will not work with WS.

You need dv.avi files, yours are not.

Heres what I found

Heres what I found.

The avi are H.264/MPEG-4 AVC for video codec
and mp4a: MPEG-4 AAC LC for audio codec

The MPG are MPEG-1 for video codec
and MPEG-2 Layer 3 for audio codec

You can try using SUPER (FREE!!!) to convert your files to DVD compatable MPEG-2 (SUPER shows it as "MPEG II").

You can look at the Workshop Project Settings to find the correct options (resolution, framerate, bitrate, etc) for a DVD compatible MPEG-2 file. Note that NTSC (North America) settings are different from PAL (most of the world) settings.

BTW - Making a DVD from a downloaded file usually requires lots of experimentation. If you have a "hacker attitude" it can be a fun challenge! If you are a "normal person" it can be a royal pain! There are many different formats, and many different variations (of both the video and audio file-components). And, you are usually dealing with a highly-compressed format which tend to be difficult to convert or edit.

Video chapers

Post by diasdm »

I downloaded SUPER and tranformed all files into MPEG2.
After that it all ran flawless.

But now I have another question.
I added my videos and the were set by WS2 as titles. So when I start playing I can't skip a video and go to the next one. I think the videos would have to be set as chapters to do that, right?

How can I set the videos as chapters instead of titles?

Thank you

Use an editing app to make them all one file and then set your chapter points in WS.

You can make merge them into one Title (as suggested).

You could also try creating a Playlist that plays all your separate Titles. But put a chapter mark just before the very end of each Title. So when you skip, it will jump to that dummy chapter mark, and continue to play the next Title in the Playlist.

George

Forgot about that George, probably easier to do that way.
Otherwise if you want to make one title, then what editing apps do you have?
Videostudio will do it.
