Pentax K100D Super

Post by Michael83815 »

When are we going to get a K100D Super support for raw files? Back in 10/2007 Corel said it was comming soon?

The RAW support even for the cameras that are supported by PSP is rudimentary at best, and most people use either the RAW converter that came with the camera software or another third party converter, making the changes they want in the converter than saving as TIFF for further post-processing in PSP. The free RAW Therapee supports your camera, and is available here:

Just after that, in November 2007, Corel closed the ex-Jasc office in Eden Prairie Minnesota, where PSP has been developed for many years, sacked 50 staff (of the 70 or so who were left from the more than 200 who worked there in the Jasc days), and moved development to Silicon Valley and "Greater China". (See this Corel media release).
Yes, PSPP X2 desperately needs patching and raw updating, but it's uncertain how this disruption has effected PSP development, and what level of knowledge about the nuts and bolts of PSP is still employed.
Apart from the poor quality of the raw conversion in PSP, the program has a history of infrequent updates and only supporting a small range of cameras. For instance, since the 11.20 update to PSPP XI in January 2007 there have only been six new cameras supported. All of these were added in the initial release of X2. Not a single new model was added in the 12.01 update.

PSP RAR Support

Post by Tadjio »

I would support JoeB.

I upgraded to PSP 11.20 specifically because it supported my Canon EOS 400D but found the RAW conversion so poor that I now use the Canon Digital Photo Professional software to read my RAW .CR2 files and then export via TIFF to PSP X2.

I am increasingly using DPP to 'enhance' my RAW files e.g. Tone Curve, Histogram Adjustment, and using PSP for the rest e.g. Straightening, DCNR.

I have already contacted Corel regarding the K100D Super, I suggest you do the same thing. I use Bibble as my RAW Converter as of a few weeks ago.

Well it works well, I can finally use X2 the way I want. It is a shame that the plugins don't work until converted to jpg.

Not strictly true. Plugins will only work with 8 bit/channel images (16 million colours), but you don't need to degrade the image by applying lossy JPEG compression to get to that state. Use the command Image > Decrease Color Depth > RGB - 8 bits per channel, and save in a lossless format such as TIF or PSPIMAGE. You will only need to make a lossy JPG copy if you need the smaller file size for emailing, web use or some third party (such as a printing service) that can only handle that format.
The other alternative is to see if there is another alternative to using a plugin. Many of the effects that are supplied by plugins can be duplicated by PSP's native commands - hopefully by commands that work at higher bit depth - and can be scripted to automate the process.

PEF Converter

Post by Michael83815 »

OK, I made an application that converts K100D Super to K100D so it can be used in PSP.
It makes a exact copy adding '_PSP.PEF' to the copy file with the nessary changes to make it work in PSP. It is a slow program because I choose to do a bit by bit conversion but it works and its free.
