Converting 16:9 source clips to 4:3 letterboxed

Post by Mr Fuzzums »

Hi all,

I've been having great success so far using VS (started with 10, now 11.5+) to edit HDV footage from my Canon HV20. Now that I've gotten into sharing my video online however (primarily YouTube), I've run into what I thought was a simple problem but I have as yet been unable to find an answer for -- how can I convert the 16:9 source clips into 4:3 with bars top and bottom? I've seen lots of people asking about going from 4:3 to 16:9 but haven't been able to figure out going the other direction. If anyone could point me to a how-to or impart some wisdom here it would be much appreciated.

16.9 to 4.3 is easier than the other way round. Simply import your 16.9 Videos into a project with a 4.3 setting. It will be letter boxed.

Thanks, I'll give it a shot on one of the clips and see what happens.
