C and D are not just troubling, they're real troubling. They may be alright in monitoring the use, and making sure you're using a licensed version, however to think they have the right to alter your system. I don't think so, not even a little bit.
If I find that happening, the program is coming off the PC..

Protexis licensing has to modify the system if it is to run as a service in the background. I don't like that either. I prefer to be able to choose when services get started on my computer. Protexis should not need to be running when I am not actively using PSPP X.....vidoman wrote:C and D are not just troubling, they're real troubling. Hi. I just purchased X2, but decided to check the message boards before installing it (currently have versions 9 and 10 installed, but skipped 11). These issues really bothers me. I looked through the online license, but can't find any reference to them. Could someone please tell me where to find this information?
I sure don't need another program/company taking over control on this computer. MS and HP do automatic updates, and slow things to a crawl. I can shut down the HP updates, but when MS pushes it's stuff I sometimes have to just walk away for awhile, if I'm working with graphics.
Thank you.

You can find the PSPX2 license by starting the program and going to Help -> About and clicking the License button. You can also just open "license.rtf" from the program's home directory (usually under C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo X2).
Use of a software firewall (such as Norton Internet Security etc) would stop pretty much all of those dubious actions in their tracks.
I'd love to hear a clarification from Corel themselves on exactly what lengths they intend to go to under the auspices of those licensing terms, but I very much doubt anyone could get a response out of them on the issue.
TBH I suspect they mostly refer to the Protexis licensing, MediaCataloger and default file associations and that the "monitoring" part is just anonymous function hitcounters and possibly debug data when/if the thing crashes. The actual wording makes it look pretty scary though, I'm sure they could've (may even be expected to under UK DPA good practice) do a better job of clarifying exactly what data they are/are-not collecting and what they are/are-not doing with it.

Re: Corel's licensing
I'm sure that every user will be less than satisfied with Corel's agreement to monitor usage and to include third party participation in this matter.
There are so many invasive operations using the computer these days that I have become used to it and, against my better judgment, accepted it.
I'm not sure if an announcement of this practice is better or worse than a company or individual doing this invasion of privacy with or without permission and often with no knowledge of the user.
The simple "will not . . . without your permission" is very vague and useless at the best of times.
I would question the software that may not alert you of similar practices, as well.
- Oh Brother . . . or should I say Big Brother.

Re: X2 License
X7 Here...
Just registered in order to try and toss in my 2 cents.
It is a damn shame on so many levels to that Corel is doing what it currently is with our systems. Sadly, I would walk away from this pathetic business practice save for the fact that I have about 30 years into learning this program. It even pains me to offer such a thing in public. But even registering for this forum, in nothing but an attempt to offer this forward, I found to 2 separate tries that my password was too long. Even that a glaring example of how unconcerned with our individual privacy Corel has become.
I have fought for and expressed the benefits of working with the Corel Corporation for many years. Even years before Microsoft gave them the sizable infusion of cash that they did almost 20 years ago. Look it up.
The attached image is a result of a program that starts when it wants to - whether I have even loaded CorelDraw or not since a last reboot. A process that just starts running in memory with no option I can find to prevent it from taking place. Furthermore, it makes me aware that the possibility exists that other such things could be running - and reporting my activities - at any time that they like. To even suggest that it is not a valid concern at this point is a expressive revelation of sheer ignorance.
Again, I state, it truly pains me to have to say such things about a company I have actively defended and taught classes on their product line.
And, for those interested, the little windows started running/popping up without my consent prior to having shut off the add that would come up every other time I would close CorelDraw. Matter of fact, I only clicked the "don't show this again" option on THAT box in a futile attempt to try and stop this other box from popping up. Ads popping up when one is giving a conference call, making presentation from my desktop to thousands of individuals at a time, is just bad practice. This current configuration of the company has fallen far from the original tree on which we depended so heavily.
A sad case, indeed.
Since this is a "Corel" forum, I am going to see if this entry is allowed to exist as is. If not, then I will simply take it to our almost 7,000 strong membership at the SMB Professionals Group ( https://smbproit.com ) and leverage it forward there.
Perhaps the most irritating thing about these processes is that when trying to shut down the program that is shoving Corel's ads in the field of view of my desktop, I never know when I may be messing up the 3rd party "security" program that runs to see if my Corel License is valid. Co-mingling so many things. Truly a sad day, Corel.
When considering what I have entered here, when added to what the others above have offered forward, I wish I could leave you behind for these grievous violations of our trust.
Sincerely and without hesitation,
Max
Oh, and apparently this forum has no clue - or no interest - in implementing a REAL secure certificate. Does it never end? Especially when they don't even have to pay for one these days. Ugh!

Re: X2 License
Hi Max
Although this forum is hosted by Corel, we that is the Moderators and Admin do not work for Corel, just like you, volunteers, users of the programs trying to help others.
Unfortunately the forum does not cover Corel Draw, you should post to
https://community.coreldraw.com/
Other Corel products suffer similar popups, your comments are indeed supported by most if not all of Corel’s users with the subject being raised many times on this forum.
I do not understand your problem regarding the password when registering here as I had no problems in setting up an account a few weeks ago, Password length is limited to 12 characters, not a big issue though.
Please post to the SMB Group if you feel they will have more impact on Corel’s policy.
Also contact Corel Support as they probably will not read this post.
