Welcome to the forums,

Dazzle devices are proprietary, made by Pinnacle. They basically will not work well with other software. You could capture using the software that came with the device. Once you have the video captured to your PC, use MovieFactory or any video editing software to edit and then produce your DVDs.

Digital-8 video, what make/model of camcorder? Most MiniDV, and Digital-8 camcorders have Firewire ports. This is so you can transfer video from the camcorder to a PC. With Firewire you will get the best quality from your digital video. If your camcorder is equipped with Firewire, I recommend using that.

For other external capture devices, I would recommend something from Canopus.

I have been tortured trying to use any USB based video capture device. Long captures result in dropped frames, audio / video out of sync problems, plain old stopped captures, and on and on.

They are junk. I have 3 such devices collecting dust and I'd never use them again.

You should look into external firewire based capture devices that capture using a hardware dv-avi encoder such as the Canopus 110 or even better Canopus 300.

There is also the ADS Pyro Link and the Datastorm units. The big things are firewire, and dv-avi. On the fly mpeg encoding IMO is looking for trouble. Let your computer encode to mpeg as a last step after editing and at its leisure.
