Cannot capture from DVD
RunningVS11 on Vista, when I click on Capture from DVD, it shows the drive which I am using, but the IMPORT button remains dimmed so am unable to proceed. Any help please and be gentle...I'm a novice at this !

When you select 'Import from DVD/DVD-VR', and the new screen with the tree structure of the DVD appears, you select the 'chapters' you wish to import by ticking the small box to the immediate left of each chapter... Many people do not seem to notice that!
When at least one box is ticked, the Import button becomes activated.
Incidentally, to get to that Import command, you don't need to use the Capture tab. Just right click in either the timeline or in the library pane, and it is among the drop down choices... (although in those cases, the word 'Insert' is used instead of 'Import from...')

Not sure exactly what you mean by the 'import box'... Can you elucidate please?
Do you get an import window with a tree structure but the little boxes inside are not active? Or do you not even get the import window?
Also, have you tried copying the DVD to your hard disk and importing from there?

It is possible that you may be a victim of a dll file that has affected some users.

Both DVDs I,ve tried show only the title. Neither show a Vt or an Audio filder.
To complicate (or simlify ?) matters, I,ve just tried a professional DVD
(Dailty Mail Film) and the IMPORT button is operational and does what it says.
Does this help your diagnosis.

I'll attempt to try your suggestion (unless the above negates that) but it seems awfully complicated for me........

When you click on the 'Insert DVD/DVD-VR' button, and the new window appears, is it the 'Drive' box at the top which is greyed out, or the 'Import DVD Folder' button below that? Or is the latter active but when you press it and navigate to the drive with your DVD in it, do you not then get a drop down button to the left of the name of the DVD which, when you click it, shows the Video_TS folder? (Sorry to be hammering the detail, but it is probably important...)

After clicking on 'InsertDVD/DVD-VR a new window appears.
Shows box for drive, which I can highlight.
'Import DVD Folder' is active, but if I press that, nothing happens presumably because it cannot find a folder.
The next box is'IMPORT' This box is greyed out. Nothing I press within the window takes me to the Drive I highligted.
If I open the Drive via ,My comuter, the title appears BUT ONLY the title. No drop down button and no Video folder

Are you sure it is a video DVD and not an archive DVD which happens to have video material archived on it?
Mind you, even in that case, (My) Computer should pick up other content, even if it does not in fact have a Video_TS folder on it... If Computer picks up absolutely nada and zilch on it, then the only reasonable conclusion is that the disc is defective somehow or other...
Have you tried any other video editing or related program on it such as Nero, Roxio, or copying programs like DVD Fab which is fairly forgiving of defective video DVD structures...? If you can at least make a copy of it on your hard drive, you could try importing from there. Or as a last resort, change any files with the .vob extension to .mpg (since that is in effect what they are). Then simply open the .mpg files in VS by using the simple 'Insert' command rather than 'Insert DVD/DVD-VR'.
