Capture problems

Post by chask »

Should say at the outset that I do not think my problem is Ulead specific, however I am hoping someone might recognise the issue and point me in the right direction.

I am running Windows XP (SP2) and using a Sony DV camcorder via Firewire card.

Have used this setup previously with no problems (probably prior to installing SP2)

Now when I use Direct to Disc and select the DVD video format, the source shows as "Sony MSDV" but all capture buttons are greyed out.

If I select DVD Video Fast re-editable or DVD+VR then the capture buttons show OK but when I start the capture it complains that the tv format needs to be changed. I have everything set to PAL (I'm in Australia) but changing everything to NTSC gives the same result. However I can control the camera by playing the preview buttons, but nothing shows on the preview screen - only on the camera.

If I use "Create Video Disc" the program "wakens" the camera, ie pulls it out of standby, but again all capture buttons are greyed out.

I have tried using other software such as Pinnacle, but that just says there is no capture device connected.

To me it seems as if the program is recognising the camera but thinks there is no tape to capture, but that is just a wild guess. I do have the camera set to VCR mode.

Would appreciate any ideas.

Hi All,

Found my own solution, which I will post here in case it is of benefit to others.

I understand that the problem is caused by SP2 (this is the first time I tried a capture since installing SP2).

It can be fixed by going to Start/Run and typing

regsvr32 %windir%\system32\qdv.dll

That should result in a response of

DllRegisterServer in C:\WINNT\system32\qdv.dll succeeded

Having done that my capture now works fine.

From the forums where I found this solution, it appears that SP 2 has caused problems for a number of cameras, especially Canon and Sony.
