Uninstalling DVD Movie Factory 3 and DVD Moviefactory 5

Post by dos64 »

Hi

As there seems to be no answers to my last topic (http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=30154 => Internal error in the DVD engine) , I will try to install DVD MovieFactory 6 on my old PC, to find out if this PC has problems with the projects mentioned in my last topic.

One problem here though. On my old PC I have installed versions of DVD Moviefactory 3 and a trial version of DVD MovieFactory 5. I think I need to uninstall these 2 versions before installing version 6. Does there exist a safe way to have these 2 versions uninstalled entirely and effectively. Reading some topics in different forums give some frightening stories of all kind of problems when performing the uninstallation.

So if anyone can provide a pointer to a safe/effectively uninstallation procedures for version 3 and version 5 it will be appreciated ???

I don't believe you have to uninstall the older versions. If they are trial versions and the trial time has expired, then just uninstall them before you install DVDMF6.

I have several versions of Ulead/Corel's programs installed, and have not had any issues because of it. Most of the time the problems that might arise, are due to a "common" folder that is created in the ~Program Files directory. Files in this common folder are shared by various Ulead programs. Newer versions will over-write some of the older files in that folder.

So basically if you're wanting to uninstall the older versions, do it before installing the newest version, and you should be alright.

Hi Vidoman

Thanks for your reply.

Version 3 of DVD MovieFactory I have installed is not a trial version (only version 5 is). As I can see from the number of replies you have issued, you are an expert, I would like to ask you the following. If I want to perform an uninstallation of my version 3 DVD MovieFactory and my version 5 trial version, is it then enough to reove the programs using the Add/Remove programs utility => i.e. no garbage will be left in the registration database then, preventing version 6 running properly .

Most of those versions will be removed. I say most because Ulead had a problem with uninstalling everything. Since you would be installing a newer version, anything that is left behind, and that the newer version may use, would be replaced by the newer install.

You might have to go through and delete some folders in the Program Files, My Documents, ect. Those are harmless to new installs though.

Also there may be a frag or two left in the registry. If you're ok with editing the registry, it should not be a problem removing those. If you do, do it before installing MF6, that way you will not accidentally remove an entry for MF6..;)

Like Ron I have several versions of MovieFactory all installed on the same computer at the same time. If however you want to completely remove them the instructions are here - apart from the only version of MovieFactory I don't have which is "3"

Hi Both

Thanks again for the replies.

I think I have enough information now to perform the uninstallation of the earlier versions. Hopefully I will not face the same problems on my older PC regarding the troublesome projects described in my previous topic.

I wonder a bit why there always seems to be some kind of problems with the different Ulead DVD MovieFactory versions. Originally I used version 3, but I have to upgrade to newer versions, because I also suddenly faced some problems with version 3 preventing me from making DVD folders (I can't remember the exact problem now though).
