We need some more info. AVI is a container format, so there are many different kinds. From the library or timeline right click on one of your clips and give us the properties.

Also, what are your project properties?

You may also try updating the drivers for your graphics card.

If indeed, as I suspect they are, your videos are DV/AVI format, that will take approx. 13 GB hard disk space for one hour of captured video. If, therefore, you have captured one single, full mini DV cassette, it will have taken up 13 GB of your C:\ drive. As a general rule of thumb, you need at least *twice* that amount of hard disk space (i.e. approx. 26 GB) when you edit that DV.

So I can only agree with Clevo that you simply don't have enough hard disk space available for proper editing. You will need to buy another hard disk and install it (preferably) internally in your computer or via USB 2.0 (or firewire) as an external disk.

If I remember correctly, the system requirements for VS 10/10+ specified Windows XP SP2.

I have absolutely the same problem. I tried it on my two computers. Both are different brands laptops 2G dual core 2G memory 20G disk free space. NVIDIA FX1500M with 256MEG video, WIN XP SP2. I put just one HDV clip in project. Clip prewiev is OK. Project preview has 1 - 0.5 frame per sec. Is it common problem for laptops?

What do I do wrong? :(

As has been previously stated, an hour of dv-avi is 13GB. 20GB of space is not a lot. How big is the clip you are trying to play?

That's a high def clip so is going to require some serious number crunching from the computer.
In clip mode it may be ok as it is simply playing what is there.
In preview mode the program is throwing it together on the fly and may be overstretching your computer resources.

Solution as uppeard is very simple in my case. If proxy is enabled and proxy frame size is smaller than clip frame size UVS renders alwais the proxy file simultaniously with instant project playback. Proxy file creation takes a lot of computer resources and slows down project playback even for powerful computers. When it finished (it can take minutes) UVS plays project as smoosth as clip. To avoid it, disable proxy during instant playback or set proxy frame size equal or bigger than clip size.
In High Q playback UVS starts playing only after preview file creation.

Best regards
