memory leak again?
I installed the upgrade to VS9, from VS7 SE, and after 15 mins I get an "out of memory" message, I downloaded the trial of VS8 in January, and got the same thing, but I knew that it was a bug in VS8 and had been fixed in a patch. Why would they let the same bug appear in their newest version? and how can I fix it?

I was just cutting out some commercials out of a TV program, It was a long program and took me about 3 hours to cut, I had to reboot the program, or my computer about 15 times in that time period, due to the memory problem. My specs are 512 mb RAM, 3.4 Ghz, 250 Gb, Hard Drive, It was the only program running at the time, I got about 10-20 mins before the memory ran out in each session

Gordon,
I pulled up an old analog SVHS capture at similar capture settings except at 8000kbps bitrate. One thing I noticed is that during instant playback, the mrmory runs up to about 490 MB and drops back to 300 - 320. The high number is uncomfortably close to your 512 MB installed memory. I don't know if the amount of memory acquired is proportional to the amount installed (I have 1 GB) I have the virtual (paging) memory limit at 1 GB. Could you try setting your memory to 512MB and then monitor mem usage..
John
Edit: Another thought: Your video frames are larger because of the higher bitrate. Just a few percent larger might push your system intp page thrashing mode...

Gordon,
Assuming you have XP, right mouse on My Computer in the Start Menu and select Properties. Then click the Advanced Tab. Under the Performance section click Settings. Click Advanced. In the Virtual Memory section there is a sentence "Total Paging File size for all drives: XXXX.
What is the number XXXX?
John
BTW, you should also have DMA enabled for your hard drives and Write Caching should be disabled. This is described in Appendix D of the User manual. (P189)
