Hi..
I am using a trial version of Video Studio 11 or 11.5.
I have canon HG10 AVCHD connected via usb with Win Vista.

When I open VS11 and then plug in via usb, it shows pc connected and I can see my canon harddisk from window explorer.
When I press capture button, everything is grey out, I cannot find my canon or if I want to locate files and browse to canon harddisk, I couldn't find anything that I can to import.

I also got error after pressing the capture button "Either no video capture driver is installed in this system, or no device is connected"

I can locate jpeg files but not video files.

Could you please help me?

NOTE: I can use corel provided by Canon HG10, I think movie factory SE without any issue but I would like to use more features in VS11 but it seems more difficult to use or need appropriate driver.

I called support and in the end he said probably I am using trial version hence it won't work and told me to buy and if not working then get refund within 30days.

How easy to get this refund?

You will in fact be using the trial version of VS11+, not 11.5+. And I am afraid that the tech support guy was right. AVCHD "capture" only really works with the full version of VS11.5+.

As far as I understand it, with an AVCHD camera, you don't actually use 'Capture' in VS. You merely transfer the contents of the camera's card to your hard disk where you can open it in VS for editing. Using VS 11.5+ for this, it equates to right clicking on the timeline or in the library pane and selecting "Insert DVD/DVD-VR or AVCHD". You then navigate to your camera's card and select the video you want to import.

By all accounts, this works quite fine in VS11.5+. (In fact the 7 November update patch for VS11/11+ and, above all the 'Hot Pack' brought out a couple of days later (which upgrades VS11+ to VS11.5+), were largely, though not exclusively, inspired by the need to fix the AVCHD problems with the original version (which alas you are trialling). Unfortunately, neither the patch nor the Hot Pack work with the trial version.

Incidentally, if you decide to buy the full version, make sure you buy the PLUS/+ version. The Hot Pack upgrade only works with the + version, not the ordinary VS11 version without the +.

Can't comment on how easy the refund procedure is since I have never used it.

Movie Factory (which came with your camera) apparently always worked for AVCHD files -- or else the SE version which came with the camera has been tweaked to do so properly.

But I think you will have no trouble once you have the full version of VS11+ and apply the 6 November update patch and the Hot Pack. Other users who have done so, and have the same camera as you, have apparently had no subsequent problems apart from the arcana of dealing with such a difficult format as AVCHD is proving to be. But we have a resident high def/avchd guru, etech, who will undoubtedly jump in here if I have given you any wrong advice or if you need more detailed tips in the future.

A further "incidentally" is that I trust you have a powerful computer -- at least a Core 2 Duo or Quad -- as this is apparently a sine qua non for AVCHD editing and playback...

I think I better wait for version 12 since I read somewhere it will be release next month so I don't need to worry with the refund in case something happen or buy and then upgrade again.

Yes, I have core 2 duo with 4gb ram but still take a long time to render movie/video.

The HG10 comes with a Corel application called Guide Menu which you should use to transfer video from the camcorder hard drive to your pc.

Since Canon ship the software with the camcorder, it should be regarded as the most reliable means of transfer rather than trying to capture from the camcorder in VS, and it might solve some of your problems.

P.S. you may well have already sorted out your difficulties by now
