Capture Device Settings (VS11.5 Plus)

Post by mikerg »

Hi all, :D
I am new to this Forum but have been using Video Studio since VS-6.

I have just upgraded to VS11.5-plus and have found a major problem (to me). I use a Belkin USB analogue capture lead/device. With all previous versions of Ulead Video Studio, have been able to adjust the Capture device settings for this device.

This was made possible by going to 'File/Options/Preferences/Capture' and ticking the box 'Allow adjustment to capture device settings'. I could then choose from S-Video and Composite. NTFS and PAL when in the Capture screen plus various other settings for picture quality.

The 'File/Options/Preferences/Capture/Allow adjustment to capture device' tick box is missing in VS11.5 so I can't set up the device before capturing.

Can anyone tell me, is this facility still avaiable in VS11.5 or have I just paid out for software that I can not use?

Thanks for reading this..

Sorry if this has already been answered elsewhwere, I searched and scoured the forum and could not find any reference to the subject.

Welcome to the forums,

Unfortunately with VS11, they changed the capture plug-in from the VFW/DSW to IVI, which is a creation of the former Intervideo. This was to meet the requirement(s) of Vista. So you're probably not going to get VS11 to capture using your device. :(

So if you can capture using VS10, then I would certainly do that. Once the video is captured, you can use VS11 to edit. Several members use more than one program in our course of capturing, editing, and authoring. A couple of us use a freeware program called WinDV, because we use DV cams, capture using firewire, in the DV format. WinDV does a nice job of capturing.

You can have several versions of VS installed, depending on available hard drive space of course. I currently have VS8 through 11.5+ installed, mainly for providing help on this forum.

On the main Capture page underneath the capture settings is a gear labeled options. Click on it to get your capture options.

Thanks Vidoman for the info, Its obvious you are well experienced with VS..
In Page 46 of the VS11 manual, it says:
To specify the type of video source you are capturing from, click Options then select Video Properties. In the dialog box that opens, you can customize the following capture settings:
..In the Input Source tab, choose whether you are capturing NTSC, PAL, or SECAM video and select the Input source (Tuner, S-Video, or Composite).
The problem is that the Input source Tab does not exist in my VS11 so I come to a full stop at that point. This is the same as VS10, until the Option to allow adjustments to capture device settings is ticked in Preferences/Capture tab. This Option does not exist in VS11..

I have contacted Corel Support and after a lengthy email conversation, it was appreciated that it is a problem and has ben has been passed on to the Corel Customer Support Manager for his attention.

I shall post any progress here as it evolves (Or Not) :)

Thanks tyamada
I am aware of the Options button, but the trouble is, the option to change my Capture device settings are not there although the manual says they should be. :)

I think they copied that from the previous version (VS10) User Guide. It is identical.

Screen-shots from VS10 & VS11, differences in Capture plug-in.

As you can see there are several capture plug-ins in VS10+, which your device would use, whereas with VS11+ there is only one, which probably does not support your capture device.

Hi Vidoman.
The capture device is listed and I can capture with it. The problem is that it is defaulted to NTSC format and Composite Input. This is why I need the facility to change the settings.

With VS10, The changes are available via the following steps.

Step 1 Select capture device

Step 2 Click Options and select 'Capture Properties'

Step 3 Select 'Video Capture Filter'

Step 4 Click 'Properties' and Hey Presto thats the screen I need. :)

Step 2 In VS11 has far less options. So this is where I get stuck.

This feature is not available in VS10 either unless the
'Allow access to capture device's settings' is ticked in 'file/preferences'

My problem is, This option does not appear in VS11 :)
