VideoStudio 11 not recognizing DVD-R when trying to burn.

I have XP-machine with a DVD-RW drive that I have used before to burn DVD+R's with VS 11, but for some reason when I try to burn to a DVD-R it is giving me a messege that I need to insert a blank disk or one with enough space, which I know is not the problem. Has anyone expierenced a similar problem, could it be with VideoStudio 11 or do I need to update a driver somewhere, or if either, how?

Please help, any help is greatly appreciated, I am on a deadline!

Are you sure the burner is a -rw one and not just a + burner?
Is the blank/burn speed too fast for the burner involved?
Is teh blank compatible with the burner?
Do you have the latest firmware for the driver?

These items can all be checked on the manufacturers site.
