Split MPG's Fast
Describe your problem: It is taking too long to split an mpg. Since all I want to do is split an mpg into smaller precise clips with no change in any of the original properties, it seems like this ought to be about a 1 minute job. However, Videio Stuidio 10 is re-compiling the whole mpg. I am using multi-trim to get the large mpg down to clip sized mpg's. I must have them as separate .mpg files. I have been trying to get third party freeware/shareware to work, but so far none can handle the formats that the current mpg's are in. Has anyone found a third party or another Ulead tool that can simply slice .mpg files at precise frames? If so, please let me know.

First there are several things that determine just how long this is going to take. For instances, what are the properties of these mpeg files?
Certain highly compressed files can take hours and hours to render out a new file. Then your system is not exactly a powerhouse, and depending on how many processes are running while you're trying to do this, will impact on the time.
Next do you have SmartRender enabled? With this enabled, VS will only render the changed parts of the video clips. In your case, it should be rather fast, unless you're using very highly compressed files.

Also, if you have your preview set to HQ it will render the preview, which takes time.
In Preferences change your preview to Instant.

Sounds like the same problem I was having. VideoReDo TV Suite did wonders for me.
It lacks in the editing options compared to VS (VideoReDo pretty much only cuts/renders) but it does do precise frame edits and renders very fast. (I'm not sure how fast it would be on your system though)
You might have to render each clip one at a time but if you're having the same issue was having then it will still be much faster.
And the resulting files work without a hitch in VS. Together they make a nice pair.
If turning-on SmartRender doesn't help, I was also going to suggest VideoReDo or Womble.I have been trying to get third party freeware/shareware to work, but so far none can handle the formats that the current mpg's are in.
