Mum not good with computers has Runtime Error

Post by Mutiara33 »

I haven't filled in the details of my hard drive, motherboard etc because I don't know how to find them!

I have managed to get my home video on to the computer and I follow all the steps in the manual and it looks like it is rendering and burning the dvd-video but then I get a runtime error. I don't even know what that is let alone how to fix it! Help, please...I have years and years worth of home movies backed up that I really need to get on to DVD.

I couldn't find troubleshooting in the manual for this and I couldn't find a previous post.

I live in China so it's difficult to find people who can help me! Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

When the error message comes up, does it give any other details? Or does it just say runtime error?
This may help
http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000380.htm#runtime

If you can get the error message to come up again and copy whatever it says down and post it, that would be great.

Also look at
start
control panel
administrative tools
event viewer
applications
and double click on the messages on the right hand side of the window, tell us what they say.

Which version of video studio are you using?

To find out what is in your pc you could use it's manual or tell us the make and model number. Or
Start
control panel
system
on the general tab it'll tell you what processor you have and how much memory installed.

A lot of runtime errors are due to lack or resources.

I take it the numbers you quote are the total space and then the free space.
If so, as you can see from your file size, 12.8gb per hour of video, you need lots of space to edit and then make your dvd. If you are working from drive D, you have run out of space.

Use Drive E and see what happens.

Did you set your working folder (Preferences) to the E: drive?

Hi Jeff

I'm embarrassed to say I don't even know what or where that is! How would I go about doing that? Is it in Ulead or in a general area?

Sorry to be so obtuse about these matters!

The ¡¥working folder¡¦ is the same as the ¡¥capture folder¡¦

Go to File--Preferences--General tab--working folder
Here you can allocate the working folder.

(It may be best to create a seperate working folder for each project.)

You can also change the location from the ¡¥Capture window¡¦

Please note:-
There is a separate / second working folder dedicated for the burner module.
This is accessed by Share-Create Disc, press F6 for preferences.

Hope this helps

No, still not working. I'm going crazy! This time it got 60% of the way through before it gave me the error message.

I was able to burn a disk a different way but it must have just been for the computer and not my DVD player to watch on tv as I got a "Can't play this disc" message on my player.

I have Sony Optical DVD-RW disks - are they the right ones for DVD players or just for computers?

Thanks to those of you posting replies to help. Much appreciated.

Hi Michelle

What working process are you using?
Are you using the recommended procedure?

Rendering the project in the burner module can cause problems. This process will use the burner working folder, press F6 to change the location to a folder on your E Drive. Your C-Drive has insufficient spare space.
Is your original captured Dv-Avi file on the C Drive???????

OK

From the project edit timelines,
Share---Create Video File (select the Pal-DVD option)

I assume your captured video is DV-Avi as you indicate the 12Gb size. You need to convert / render this project to Pal-DVD This will render the project to one Mpeg 2 file ( save the file to a folder on your E-Drive)

Now start a new project.

Share Create Disc¡XAdd Video ( Using the new Mpeg 2 file created above.)

If your settings are correct, you will not render the video file again.
After selecting ¡¥burn¡¦ You will not see the message This ¡¥Action will take some time¡K¡K¡K..¡¦

At this point it may be best to create a DVD Folder a TS folder. This will save the movie to your hard drive, again select the folder on the E-Drive.

If this is successful you will be able to play the TS folder using a media player I use ¡¥Power DVD¡¦

If the quality is acceptable, Insert a blank disc and try a burn.

Please read my guide to Mpeg from the link below.
