Thanks Ron, you've just "save my life"!
I haven't got the same problem as Michael, but I thought "Well, I'll give it a try" and it worked!!!

My problem, if anyone else got it, was about the Share-->Create-->DVD: In the create menu window, nothing was working at all!
But now, thanks you, everything's fine.

Well, I'm just arrived and I'm starting enjoying this forum already!

Bye,
Alessandro.

I had this same problem, I got it fixed by, opening old VS10 files left over with VS11 and it worked and then I could just start up from them do you have any left over VS10 files you could try it with, or when you click on the program choose a different start up, try Movie Wizard instead and then if that doesn't work either, this also worked for me when you click on the icon and it shows you which programs you can start put a tick on the 16:9 I know it shouldn't do anything drastic but when I ticked this it allowed me to click my desktop icon without any freezing problems.

Michael,

By chance, do you have any anti-virus software on your system?

Actually AdAware SE isn't anti-virus, it's anti-spyware. I was going to recommend that you turn off your anti-virus software (AVS) while installing VS11 as AVS can cause problem when installing any program (not a guarantee that it will, but that it may!).

Michael,

What's the brand of firewall that you're using? If you're just using Windows built-in firewall, then no. If you're using a "security suite" by McAfee, Symantec, ZoneLabs, etc. then you have a combination firewall/anti-spyware/anti-virus program. If that's the case, then I'd recommend disabling the program just while you do a clean reinstall of the program.

I'm sorry that you're having such a hard time getting things to work. The problem is is that VS acts differently on everybody's systems. Some folks never have a problem with VS and other folks like yourself seem to just have a problem (that usually can be fixed or worked-around). Hang in there and don't give up (yet)!

P.S. Have you tried running VS11 in XP compatability mode?

Have you tried disabling UAC (User Account Control)? This is a ridiculous security feature that MS has in Vista. I've had it crash the system after creating another user account, and then trying to log on with that new user account. Once I disabled UAC no problems.

However I've never had a problem with VS on my "wife's" Vista laptop.

I would be trying everything that I could find in Vista at this point. Try setting the display settings from Quality to Performance, making sure you're not using Vista's "Aeros". Try using the Classic Windows appearance.

You might also try creating another User account, and see if VS runs under this new user..

Just some brain storming as to what I generally do when I come up on a problem like this.
