Recovering Project Files in MovieStudio Pro 8?

Post by GregInnes »

Hey guys. I was creating a music video and was nearly at the end of it(spent about 3 hours on it) and when cutting a part of a clip, i get a program not responding error. I open the program backup to see if my work was saved but it was not. Is there anyway to get back the project i was wokring with? I know i should have saved it but i did not think this would happen.

If your automatic backups were made at the default 10 minute intervals, you should be able to go back in time about 18 notches. Try opening them until you find the latest one which works. You will find them in a directory with the same name as your project name in your working directory.

Please read the PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE POSTING... thread at the top of this board and comply.

It sounds like you hadn't saved the file and given it a name at all. If MSP hasn't created any backups, you're probably out of luck... I'm not sure if MSP will create backup files for an un-named file, though (I've never been brave enough to work for any length of time in *any* application without saving my files early and often).

If you had saved the file but it was just unable to be reloaded, you might have tried creating a new project file and then importing one of your older project files into it. I have been able to recover *some* files by doing this.

Whenever I'm working on a project, every few hours (or the next time I start working on it again - I rarely finish a project in "one sitting"), I'll load my project file and then save it under a new name just to make sure that I've got at least one working file per session. Fortunately, I've had very few problems with corrupted files (although I know some people have).

I hope this helps.

The backup files are saved in a directory called UNNAMED if you haven't named it by at least one save from the start of a project.
