I am running DVD Movie Factory on Vista.
When starting a new project I go to add video file and select the AVI file I want to include then the window locks up and I get the Vista error message "ULead DVD Movie Factory has stopped working....".
After I acknowledge that message I get another message saying "Problem caused by LAME ACM MP3 Codec".
There are some files it is OK on but for most of the files I try this consistently happenning. Files are around 700MB in size and usually encoded with XviD.
I have tried installing latest codecs but this has not seamed to help. Does anyone have any clues as to the problem. I am currently evaluating the product and was considering buying as had used it a few years ago with good results. If this is not fixed then there is no point purchasing.
Thanks.

Welcome to the forums,
MP3's seem to pose a problem with Ulead products, and they really don't like the Lame MP3. Try converting the MP3 files to WAV files before inserting them into MovieFactory.
Next you stated that you installed the latest codecs. Did you happen to install one of those codec packs, such as K-Lite? These "mega-codec packs" are bad news. Most all of the codecs contained in them are old, outdated, conflict with each other, not to mention with any codecs already on your system. If you did install one, I would highly recommend uninstalling it.
Xvid is a very highly compressed video format. It is meant to be viewed and for distribution, not to be edited. Numerous people do, and most have problems. You need a very powerful PC, and even then, it will not be uncommon to take over 10 hours to render a simple project, and sometimes at least a day.
If you're wanting to burn DVDs, then you must convert the format to DVD Compatible MPEG-2. You can expect a loss in quality, and also don't be surprised if your audio and video go out of sync.
If you're intentions are to try and create DVDs from Xvid formats, I would say get the aspirin out, because you're going to need them..

Thanks for replying.
The thing is I am not doing anything with MP3 files. All I am doing is starting a new project, selecting an AVI file to import and then it crashes.
I used DVD Movie Factory about 5 years ago on a previous PC and was quite impressed with it. Recently I have been using Nero to make DVD's but I quite often have issues with the audio going out of synch with the video when using Nero. Since I was having problems with Nero I thought I would go back to I product I previously had a good experience with.
I am using a high spec PC:
- Dual core athlon 64 6000+
- 2GB RAM
- 230GB HD
- Window Vist Home Premium
Certainly not getting that good experience at the moment.
