Corel Painter X, it was working fine...

I have been using painter x for quite some time, was working fine. Here's what happened...

The first time I grouped 3 layers together and attempted to move them onto a template (I usually use photoshop but corel, I recently found, gets better colors when I print). Painter crashed.

Now, everytime I open, it says:
"Can't Open the File "PainterGradients.gradients""

Tried to have vista fix it, no luck.
Tried uninstall/reinstall, no luck.
Ran Norton (just to make sure), no virus, etc.

Does anyone know
1. what happened?
2. how to fix/prevent in the future?
3. is this a vista problem (feel free to move thread if not)?

Any help is much apprieciated, I have customers art in RIF format I cannot open any other way!!!
